Yes, seems he was so much deeply involved in Le Mans it was too much for him. Many real but unwanted crashes, a blown out budget, wanting to stick to the reality costs tons. And the tiny action cals were to be discovered. I think you can watch Le Mans 71 on Youtube.
Grand Prix was the first of this kind, big budget, expensive and international stars, I think it remains unmatched. |

I'm tempted to buy a record player so that I can listen to my LP of '66 Le Mans (the actual race), not having heard it for about 50 years.
In complete contrast I've also got an equally old record of the Festiniog Railway! |

I was an extra in that film at Brands Hatch with a load of mates in the crowd and remember looking at the cars with their wired on V8 exhaust manifolds and skinny tyres

I watched that myself last night. I was sort of aware of it but not the story behind it not happening. Some great footage in it. I enjoyed it.

The full LP, all 45 minutes of it. (You dont even have to be a facething member..... Im not and I just managed to watch it.... yes watched is the word as the video has the original sound track with many b/w and colour photos of the event on screen.) Photos are from 'the Henry Ford Collection' https://www.facebook.com/gt350lady/v...1981383693827/ Edit: Cant help you with Festiniog Railway though. 2nd edit: Maybe I can re the railway! Settle for a 1970's 10 minute 35mm home movie of the Ffestiniog Railway? Albeit with a rather strange soundtrack https://youtu.be/bKIadddSQsE Last edited by E.B; 11 Jan 2021 at 00:04. |

Nothing with seagulls, EB? It might help for at least a duo, we have my mother in law at home… Actually…

I remember visiting Renault Sport facilities. We were explained how to spy another team, with a simple recorder, located in the pit wall area. For an trained hear, easy to guess the max revs and average power. A double clutch gearbox too… Happy days.

Is it the right time to introduce Peter Ustinov's Grand Prix of Gibraltar to the thread?
Max - do you want to borrow it? |

Re the Lotus record I dont have it but I assume you mean The Champion / Workin' al'nighter record by Team Lotus in 1973.... a bit of info and pics of it but no soundtrack unfortunately. Written produced and arranged by then Team Lotus member, Luke Watson. http://www.45cat.com/record/spd100l Edit: I happened to find the Champions (the A side of the record) on youtube, but cant find the B side Workin al'nighter. https://youtu.be/FSHSJnT_osY |

An amusing story about Luke - he was in the habit of having a packet of biscuits in the draw of his desk but they often disappeared if the lads were working late. Luke got a bit fed up with this, especially as nobody would admit to it, so one day he bought a packet of chocolate bourbons & laboriously replaced the fillings with laxative chocolate. Naturally, they all disappeared one night! Again no-one would own up to it but it never happened again! We had a pretty good idea who it was, something that was more or less confirmed at a dinner many years later. |

On the other hand due to arthritis, I started wearing a copper bracelet last year which seems to work. A lot of people say it's an old wives tale, although one that must date back centuries as they've been used for hundreds of years. My answer is old wives tale or placebo effect or not, it seems to work, my hands and fingers don't ache as much and I can now bend my fingers whereas before I wore it sometimes I couldn't even pick a cup up without dropping it |

Had my Tizer jab today, about an hour ago, so far so good. The jab itself is very brief, and for me painless. After establishing your identity they ask a few questions, about allergic reactions, previous vaccinations, had I been part of a Covid vaccine trial, and was I taking any relevant medication. No to all that and JAB. One is then held captive for 15 minutes to check for immediate problems, before being released into the community again. Possible side effects include a rise in temperature for a couple of days, soreness in the arm, and a fever. If these persist more than two days contact your GP.
I was due to be done on Sunday, but managed to re-arrange for Judy and I to be done together today. I will let you know if I develop any symptoms. Interestingly the Doc had a tray of needles on her desk from which she used, so the low temperature storage seems to be for long term safety. |

Interesting story. I had heard about that song before and expected it to be cringeworthy, as songs by sports people tend to be, but it’s actually it’s not bad. Certainly better than some football songs go. Isn’t the B side supposed to be just mechanics working on the car or something similar? |

It could be a coincidence but around the time of the first lockdown I have been reading advice about not eating tomatoes if one needed some arthritis respite. I had ignored it for a while but was seriously considering trying it out and the first lockdown meant the regular trips to the local supermarket for supplies of fresh tiddly tomatoes was frowned upon by management. Also I was not keen to stand in a queue for hours. So I took the opportunity to try out abstinence. It seems there is something in it. Stiffness is still there - especially after hours on a keyboard. But the regular stabbing pains that seemed to have no cause have almost completely vanished and were greatly minimised almost immediately. There again, I had also started to included a little more turmeric in foods to make them more interesting (deep frowns from management due to the risk of staining everything yellow) and turmeric is, supposedly, meant to be useful for "treating" arthritis. However I think the medical tests involved mice or rats and turmeric delivered in a relatively industrial scale so I doubt my use does anything more than add some flavouring. Doubtless the real influence has been something else of which I am not aware. |
