Round 3 ("Asia")
This from the Mumbai Mirror:http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpa...747609d52d9f15
Yesterday, David Clare, the regional CEO (Asia) of the A1 Grand Prix said that three spots in Asia were in contention for hosting one of the 10 races of what is touted as the World Cup of motor racing. “The venue for the third race of the current season has not been finalised yet and while China is the leading contender to host it, India is not far behind,” Clare said. Surely not... . Besides Shanghai and Zhuhai there are no other race tracks up to standard in China, and the Beijing street race last season was a nightmare. It's a big risk to confirm and hold a race at the last minute without proper promotion as well, as A1GP discovered in season 1. |

The only possibility is the Chengdu circuit that hosted the Formula Asia V6 by Renault last week. The A1GP race will help to promote the circuit internationally and crowds will come just to see what motorsport is about.
But I suspect the third round would be in Japan. I have to say 3 races in China in one season is way too many. |

I hope that it would be somewhere like ... Suzuka or Motegi? |

Isn't that Indonesian circuit they used before still available?

Yep, and I have a feeling Sentul is where they'll be going.

Surely Japan is not an option considering the high cost, no local team, no word on any promoter there...
Not sure if Chengdu would be possible, I have been told that they have (once again - it is the same people that built the Beijing Goldenport circuit, which also could not hold A1GP) built the walls too close to the track... The whole issue with round 3 seems to have been created by the fact Ananda Mikola and his father, who owns Sentul, have put their lot behind GP2 Asia instead, so not sure we will be going back there. Most likely scenario in my opinion seems to be no race on that date. |

It does seem to be the recurring problem with A1GP - lack of certainty regarding the races.
I don't know of any other race series that still has a mysterious race meeting 2 months away. Like Kiwi, I think that if there was going to be a race then, they'd know more details about it at this stage in the proceedings. |

I just heard that A1GP was going to be held at Sentul until GP2 Asia came in with a promise that Ananda Mikola will drive in it.
But I don't see why Sentul is so important to both A1GP and GP2. It is kinda like two bald men fighting for a comb... |

"Asia" now officially off the calendar and another date change has been made too.

I still think it's a strange decision by Ananda Mikola. Where is GP2 Asia going to lead him?
Anyway at least the bad news is confirmed now. The six week gap is going to suck though. |

Maybe they can now ship the cars to Malaysia by sea freight instead of air freight and save some money.
