Classic Formula Ford 1600 in 2008
The provisional calender is out for the URS Classic Formula Ford Championship 2008. I think it looks pretty good as there are trips to Thruxton, Cadwell Park, Croft, Oulton Park and Brands Hatch included.
(All these races are accompanied by the URS FF2000 also) So if you have a Pre 81/Pre 74 Formula Ford and fancy some close clean motor racing at reasonable cost these are the dates. We are also having a stand at the London Motorsport show on 8th/9th December at Excel in Docklands - see www.classicformulaford.com for more info. 1. 23/4 March Thruxton 2. 19/20 April Pembrey 3. 19/20 April Pembrey 4. 18 May Mallory Park 5. 7/8 June Brands (Indy) 6. 21 June Oulton (Island) 7. 19/20 July Croft 8. 19/20 July Croft 9. 9/10 August Snetterton 10. 14 September Cadwell Park 11. 4/5 October Silverstone (National) 12. 4/5 October Silverstone (National) |

I am not sitting by a calendar, but it looks like the final rounds will clash with the Castle Combe's FF Carnival sadly.

WoW, it looks as if the organising club (BARC) are on the ball with setting dates. They look pretty good as well.
Looks to me as if the Classic brigade deserve more support there must be loads of pre 1980 cars out there. Formula Fords of any year at Thruxton and Cadwell has to be a good thing. Is this the only proper non regional Championship for Formula Fords. If the Classics can make it work surely there has to be a good chance of getting a National Kent Formula Ford championship off the ground for 2009, just look at the WHT, the cars and the interest is there it just needs organising, maybe a job for the BARC??? The only sad thing about this list of dates is no Castle Combe Carnival round. The classics always provide good entertainment. Well done Classic Formula Ford and the BARC. Test Run |

Looks good-Kind of makes me think I wish we had a classic instead of our new Ray. If anyone fancy giving me a run in the championship next year let me know!!!

Sounds like a great idea. Get a current modern driver in one and you might convert a whole bunch of people to classic racing!!

Might see if I can find out what happened to our old Ray 80FF Laurace Plumber had it in 1986 then it was sold to someone doing Champion of Oulton. White with a red stripe.
One of the black & white Rob Cresswell front rad Rays would be good too. No idea what happened to them. |

I was lucky enough to be given a test session in a RF80 on Saturday at Anglesey (thanks Bernard Baxter and co). I have got to say it was great fun to drive-a lot more sideways than a post 2000 car thats for sure! What was even more impressive was I was only about a second slower than a good post 89 time despite using Silverstone gear ratios in less than ideal conditions which surprised me a lot.
Be great to see if I can do some races next year in one alongside racing our Ray. |

Rory Farrell did the whole of the 2007 series with the exception of one round which clashed with the Leinster Trophy. He won Class A 10 times - so you could say he had a pretty good season !!
