Rallycross or Drifting??

I don't know what people make of the attempt to combine drifting with a rallycross meeting. It seems that the two-day MSA meetings at Lydden and Pembrey will take place over two days in order to accommodate a drifting championship.

I thought we were being told there wasn't enough time to fit a rallycross meeting in? Two day meetings are always going to be more expensive for all concerned - and there's 'family issues' when a whole holiday is taken up.

Where has this info come from?
I thought the Lydden meeting was going to be testing and first runs on the Sunday plus some ERC visitors.
The Pembrey two day'er I understood was going to incorperate a BTRDA round on one of the days, and a combined event with the IRC on the other.

Just relying on my usual sources - but there is reference to it in an official post on the BRDA forum. Clarification anyone?

What do they have to offer each other? They don't seem to share anything, not even the same track!

Once again I think people have got the wrong end of the stick.

I have read the post on the BRDA site, and I read it as a PR from Lydden. Nothing to do with the BRDA.
Quote:
They are also introducing the British Drift Championship which will fit in perfectly around Lydden
I read this as Drifting will fit in well with the new owners plans, not a rallycross meeting. If you go to the BDC website it lists their date as 19th July. Not March or August.
Quote:
and also following the double header at Pembrey this year (May 3/4) on May 5th they are hosting The BHP Performance Show
I think this means that there will be a show at Lydden. Nothing to do with Drifting at the Pembrey meeting.

The british drift championship has its own round at Lydden - totally separate to the rallycross meetings. Also the BHP show at Lydden is a stand alone event that will have rallycross cars doing demos - it's not part of a rallycross event.

Not so much the wrong end of the stick - more a case of wrong stick

Dont everyone get their knockers in a twist, you never know you mkght actuyally enjoy it!

This is a modern way of doing motorsport, two dates, two types of racing, cuts costs and makes mmore revenue for the circuit and its facilities,

I would welcome any new additions to a meeting really, more people+more fans potentially

I'm not against having other attractions at a meeting as long as it doesn't detract from the time available for rallycross. I know conversations have taken place - we'll have to see what happens.

I never quite see the point of posting rumours based on such flimsy conjecture. It's a discussion rooted firmly in cloud-cuckoo-land, and we all know how much use those are...

If and when something is decided/announced, that's the time to bring it up and have your opinion on it, otherwise all it does is stir things up unnecessarily. We're not exactly short of arguments in rallycross these days, let's not add to these needlessly, eh?

Well, there's not much point trying to influence a decision AFTER it has already been taken and announced is there?

Might the 'rumour-mill' in rallycross be a result of the way things are run sometimes??

Alright, fair point if a rumour has solid grounding, but this one seems to be based more on misinterpretation of a press release than any actual evidence.

What you say is true, but there's also not much point trying to influence a decision that doesn't exist.

So why are people being so sensitive about this then? Are you telling me this hasn't been discussed?

What's the saying - "don't believe anything until it has been officially denied".

I don't think anyone was being sensitive.

I just think we are all fed up with the rumour mill that seems to be surrounding British Rallycross at the moment. I know it's lack of information feeds the rumours, but please let's not go looking for things which probably aren't there anyway.

I am getting so fed up with the "he said", "she said", "we said", "they said" attitude of a number of people in our sport that I could quite easily walk away tomorrow.

To all our organisational bodies, I say
Read Sean Moriarty's piece in this weeks Motorsport News, think about it, and act accordingly!

Drifting is boring compared to RX and as a spectator and part time RX service crew I would rather see more RX than some geezers drifting their jap machines around

It will also be interesting from the noise perspective - by it's nature Drifting competitors are revving the ****s out of their engines, with the tyres protesting - that should impress the locals!!

As long as they're under the noise limit for the circuit then I fail to see what the problem is.

What I'm also failing to understand is why some people are now so "anti" drifting? Is it a threat to Rallycross? I wouldn't have thought so - two very different disciplines so why the aggro?
