The Ferryman should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
noob Membership, Registration, and Clothing

Hi guys,

I have joined the Marshalling adventure being a member of BARC, is it worth being a member of any other organisations i.e. BMMC as i will be looking to do a lot of race marshalling.

Also is this a good site for registering interest: http://www.marshals.org.uk/index.htm
is it in common use by members here???

Lastly, for protective clothing i have been recommended AWS, anyone else i should consider?

many thanks all

Joining the BMMC is the best bet, as it is THE marshals club. Overalls from AWS are good, as you get a discount/special price.

Hi Tom. As Chris has said, you get a discount from AWS for your overalls, etc, but as far as I know the discount only applies to BMMC members.

Have a look at this thread: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107092 ... it should have plenty of helpful information for you. But as with everything in marshalling, don't be afraid to ask if there's something you're unsure of. Welcome to the world of orange, and welcome to Ten Tenths!

I believe that the BARC overalls are the same price as those from AWS using the BMMC discount, call Becci and check.

You also get 20% off (I believe!) overalls, and anything else in the memorabilia shop at combe if your a member of castle combe racing club, bit far from you though I guess???

First Thing I'd get, if money is tight, is water proofs, I always use orange with reflective tape on ( www.bestinthecountry.co.uk ) are very good, and gloves, think there welders gauntlets are £1.75, get a few pairs!
good foot ware, if your company issue them then maybe get a new pair more suited to Marshalling!
nice set of probans, and I use a fishing box from Argos, was £10 when I got it, to keep all my bits in, has padded top to make a seat and keeps your stuff dry!.
Must be said, all this is optional, but it tends to be what we do!
Oh, and clear a big space for baseball caps, I seem to have 30 of the things!

Hello ferryman, dont forget as a BARC marshal....to get your BARC card stamped every Barc meeting you do.
If you do enough you wont pay for next years membership, plus you could have a bit left over to buy some Barc stuff from there catalogue.

What about a nice leather cowboy hat...

Very stylish and keeps your ears dry when it rains and also keeps the sun of your neck.

With the BMMC you have the added bonus of our own insurance cover which runs in addition to any insurance from the MSA or organising clubs.

The BMMC are working hard to try and extend the discount scheme to other products in order to help marshals keep costs to a minimum.

During almost 40 years in marshalling and enjoying membership of other major clubs, there never has been any doubt in my mind that I get the biggest “bang for my buck” from being a member of the BMMC, the Marshals’ Club. IMHO every marshal should belong to the Marshals’ Club (no matter how many other clubs he or she joins) not just for the benefits this brings to the individual but the benefits a strong Marshals’ Club can bring to marshalling generally. The Marshals’ Club has been at the heart of every new marshalling initiative over the past 50 years, from on-track Personal Accident cover for marshals to a Training and Grading Scheme that has been widely replicated in numerous countries and in sixteen different languages around the World. I feel confident that younger members joining the Marshals’ Club now will continue this fine tradition for the next 50 years!
