Probably subject to paving over every gravel run off area and erradicating any traces of grass and greenery in order to give the look and feel of a Tilke-ring.

Australia and NZ are great places for F1, the legacy of Brabham, McLaren, Hulme, Amon and Jones... and currently Webber (why not Dixon and Power?)
They should stay in the F1 calendar IMHO. |

I want the race to stay in Melbourne, but not at any cost. I wont support a night race here, or a gun to the head demanding more money.
The Oz GP is a favorite with the F1 circus and usually provides a great race (despite it not being a wonderful track). But like most Melbournians, if they fee's get to high or the demands for a night race too great, Bernie and Co can stick the GP where the sun don't shine. |

Celebrations should be in order for the good news methinks.
I didn't know we had to change the starting time to 5pm though. How 'bout that, we get a new contract for the GP, but we have to keep the Europeans happy by starting in the very late afternoon. It's ridiculous!! Who's with me? BTW, I like the way Sodemo said it had to be Tilke-esque for it to stay on the calendar. CRAP, did I say that?? Last edited by TilkeWannabe; 15 Jun 2008 at 04:38. |

The Melbourne circuit is ok, better than many, not as good as some. If the race is getting another 7 years maybe the organisers could look at re-profiling some corners to increase the difficulty.

Nothing is a done deal yet. Rob Hulls, acting Premier in the absence of John Brumby on an overseas trip, confirmed publicly today that the Victorian Government is negotiating to extend the contract to hold the race at Albert Park until 2015, but while they were hopeful of reaching an agreement with Bernie, nothing was yet confirmed.

I hope the race organisers can come to some kind of agreement with Bernie and co - I think Albert Park is a great location for a race, much better than all these deserts that Bernie seems intent on taking F1 to. I hope a condition of the contract isn't that it becomes a night race - right now nobody actually knows how successful night racing is going to be, and if it is successful then somebody will have to remind Bernie that you can have too much of a good thing. Not everyone in Europe objects to early morning races...

Moving the race to April would set the starting time later for European viewers, because then it would be after Europe has moved to DST and Australia out of it, so it's two hours later than it would be in March, even if starting time is same. This happened in 2006 when Melbourne was only 3rd race due to Commonwealth Games. But then of course, if they go later in the year, days become shorter, so it's more difficult to find ideal time.

...So they would have to start at 3 pm anyway
Historically March is the most stable weather, not that is saying much on recent form. |
