Yeah but the majority of cars nearer the bottom of the time sheets are still Opels. But nice to see Reuter up there.

Uwe Alzen took his first ever DTM poleposition today (Saturday) at Eurospeedway Lausitz. The qualifying session today was a bit of a chicken race. The session started soaking wet, but no more rain fell during the session. This meant that the driver who had most courage to wait longest would get best time due to the drying track. Audi blew their chances early on when they decided to go for wets all the way. But Uwe Alzen waited to the best moment and took poleposition with the time 1.51.445 ahead of Marcel Fässler who had a time 0.716 seconds slower. Alain Menu did also well and took, by far, his best position ever in the Opel: third. This is also the highest an Opel has been in qualifying so far this year. Reigning champion and current championship leader Bernd Schneider will start fourth in his Mercedes CLK. Mattias Ekström was the best Audi driver in ninth place, almost six seconds behind Uwe Alzen. Mattias was very disappointed since he dominated the last free test session which was run in completely dry conditions.

Eurospeedway Race
DTM 13/08/01 Uwe Alzen continued his winning streak by taking position number one over the finish line in the qualifying race. He won the race, at Eurospeedway, only 0.7 seconds ahead of Marcel Fässler. And behind the two it was solid Mercedes down to fifth place, Christian Abt was the best non-Mercedes in his Audi TT-R. Alzen made a good start while Fässler was a bit behind. Alain Menu tried the most to improve Opel's recently good performance and bumped in to the back of Fässler when braking in to the first corner. Though Menu was the looser of the two as he spun off the track and lost alot of time. The first lap was really frantic with Bartels, Huisman, Olivier, Saelens and Tomzcyk going off the track. Mean while the top was pulling away with the following order: Alzen-Fässler-Schneider-Dumbreck-Ekström. There was an especially furious fight between Dumbreck and Ekström. Ekström started from ninth on the grid but was making ground and places quickly. The two drivers were all over each other, switching not only places but also paintwork. Ekström managed to get past Dumbreck up in to fourth. But his luck did not last for long as he ran wide which allowed Dumbreck to regain his position. Only a few laps later the race was totally over for Ekström as he hit the concrete wall on the exit of the banked corner. An ever worse fight was going on a little further down the field between Jäger, Abt and Aiello. Abt was right behind Jäger and decided to have a go at him. This resulted in Jäger going of the track on to the grass. But he still managed to keep Aiello behind him. Though not for long. The Frenchman ran straight in to him on the penultimate lap that made Jäger spin and fall down to seventh place. Eurospeedway Feature Race
Peter Dumbreck took his first ever DTM win today at Eurospeeway. He won the race only just ahead of the super quick Bernd Schneider, merely 0.6 seconds separated them. The Swede Mattias Ekström made an impressive drive from 19:th place on the grid to take third over the finish line. Dumbreck won the race mainly because of smart pitstop strategy and, of course, speed. Dumbreck started fourth but managed to get up in to second place after the first corner. Alzen held the lead in to the first corner with Fässler and Schneider right behind. Fässler and Schneider went to the inside of the track to cover in the first corner. Dumbreck on the other hand stayed in the racing line that gave him much better speed and could pass the two on the outside. A few laps later, after Schneider and Dumbreck's pitstop, Alain Menu destroyed his bonnet leaving lots of fiberglass on the track. This forced the pacecar to come out for a few laps. Uwe Alzen went in to the pits while the safetycar still was out. As he came to the pitlane exit he had to wait until the pack had passed, he rejoined in 16:th place. Other drivers missed the red light showed at the pitlane exit, Scheider & Haupt, received a stop/go penalty. As the rest of the field battled the Swede Mattias Ekström was quietly making good progress. He started from 19:th on the grid and moved quickly up through the field benefiting from others getting penalties but also on keeping a high pace. He took third place from Jäger with some contact during the overtake. The qualifying race winner Uwe Alzen had no luck in this race; he got pushed in to a spin by Christian Abt and finished finally in 20:th place four laps behind the leader.
