MalcolmC should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Toyota Racing Series 2013

Not long to go before the season starts and the latest entry list looks good.
http://www.toyotaracing.co.nz/wp-con...-17-Dec-12.pdf

I'm picking some good battles out front between Cassidy and Auer, but hopefully there'll be some surprises too.

Calendar here:

Do you reckon Evans will have a drive of the Toyotas this season, maybe even just for the NZGP at Manfeild

jann mardenborough! that's a random one... been seriously impressed with his first year of cars. i wonder whether this is motivated by track time or curiosity?

Sounds a good move to see if he likes and can perform in a single seater. He did test an old ( clubby f3) car at Donington a few weeks ago.

As for who will win the Toyota series, I'd think it would be one of the Fortec drivers, Serralles/Lynn/Derani as they will be working with engineers they know from Fortec, and all 3 have driven a tear, 2 in Derani's case, of F3

That's interesting indeed about Mardenborough. The F3 test was for Carlin no less. jakobebrey.com has pictures.

Google found this story which reveals Nissan's motivation in having him drive single-seaters (and which erroneously claims he tested at Brands, unless he did in addition to Donington)...

Quote:
...the F3 test was intended to get him used to high downforce cars, as Nissan evaluates moving him into even higher profile racing.

Team manager Bob Neville said: "Nissan wants him to gain experience of racing a car with aerodynamic grip from downforce, so that a step from GT racing into the LeMans Prototype cars that compete at the highest level will be easier.

"Jann has had an impressive year and F3 experience will lessen the learning curve if he moves up, which is being considered."
So looks like Nissan are looking at moving him into one of the Signatech Orecas in WEC. Good luck to him, nice guy and truly impressive this season.

Mardenborough has done many days with Carlin since the Autumn and is testing with them out in Valencia all this week. He has also tested with others.

Next year he will race open wheelers.

Really? Apart from TRS? So Bob Neville's comments are just a cover up of their true intentions?? Surely Nissan want to keep Jann in their GTs or sportscars after all their investment? Or does this mean the GT Academy programme might venture into single seaters, perhaps with a certain Nissan engined team??? Questions, questions...

I’m looking forward to watch Jann and Tatiana Calderon performances. I want to see how fast they can go taking in count their GT Academy/Road to Indy background. Also, Dennis Olsen single seater debut can be fun.

And I agree with MalcolmC. It should be a Cassidy/Auer duel with Fortec boys on the hunt. Talking about the brazilian guys, I am very curious to see Bruno Bonifacio. This guy is very very fast, but inconsistent. So, with a TRS season under his belt, maybe he can become a frontrunner.

I don't think they've had any major updates, but looking through the Technical Regulations there's plenty of references like '2007 Spec. Dampers', '2005 or 2006 version Brake Rotors' & '2006 version Master Cylinder'. So improvements have been made to the package over the years.

I believe this coming season (the 9th) is the second-to-last for these cars but I haven't heard anything recently about a replacement car or if there are plans to extend the life of the current cars. I assume most of the tubs date from 2004 as I can't recall too many big crashes. One of the Cunningham brothers ripped the engine from one car at Hamilton but that's the worst I can remember.

Sam McNeil also severely damaged a tub (destroyed?) at the Hamilton Street race a couple of years ago (support race for V8 Supercars). There is one year left on the current agreement with MSNZ for this Championship, but it will remain around as long as Toyota share the same enthusiasm as we do.

The most annoying thing for his competitors and their dads who spent millions is the fact Jann still has so much to learn, stuff they already know and use

Juntos is a back marker
Toyota New Zealand found a good product to sell Winter racing. Shame Zhuhai circuit wasn't able to do the same years ago. Becoming 'awake' involves seeing our confusion more clearly. Qualified people needed Mr Asa.

Round 1, race 1 results: http://www.toyotaracing.co.nz/wp-con.../R1-Race-1.pdf

Auer, Cassidy, Lynn, Serralles, Bonifacio, Derani.

Top 6 reversed grid for race 2, meaning that Pipo Derani is on pole.

They definitely made an announcement about it a few weeks ago, but I can't find the series anywhere on MotorsTV's programming grids, either.

Pipo Derani won race two, on Sunday morning, and Felix Serrales won the main Sunday afternoon race and has the overall series lead.
