Crowding
http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/m...Racing_(Q).pdf
14.4.1 (Pg 271) with all the talk about the new flag regs and the 1 wheel off and how Post Chiefs are going to manage. here's another one to look out for just in case you get a quiet moment. part of the regulation Any driver moving back towards the racing line having earlier defended his position off-line should leave at least one cars width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner. However, manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction I thought this was already covered in the BB, but as it is in "Red" which normally means a new regulation. Your thoughts on this one Please |

The best you can do when trying to describe honourable racing etiquette.

My thoughts are.... that "crowding" was already covered in the BB
2013 BB 14.4.2. Overtaking, according to the circumstances, may be carried out either on the right or on the left. However, manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as more than one change of direction to defend a position, deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are strictly prohibited. Any driver who appears guilty of any of the above offences may be reported to the Clerk of Course. 2014 BB 14.4.1. Overtaking, according to the circumstances, may be carried out either on the right or on the left. In response to each attempted overtaking manoeuvre no more than one change of direction to defend a position is permitted. Any driver moving back towards the racing line having earlier defended his position off-line should leave at least one cars width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner. However, manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are strictly prohibited. Any driver who appears guilty of any of the above offences may be reported to the Clerk of Course. The real change in this section is the clarification that the previous "one change of direction to defend a position" is now "In response to each attempted overtaking manoeuvre no more than one change of direction to defend a position is permitted. Any driver moving back towards the racing line having earlier defended his position off-line should leave at least one cars width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner." The reason (I suspect) that the particular 14.4.1 section is in red in the 2014 BB is that there have been so many changes in the whole 14.x Track Regulations - and of course because part of the reg was in 14.4.2 last year and is now in 14.4.1 Dave Last edited by deley; 17 Jan 2014 at 23:55. |

Only if they actually take note of the amendments, given that the two key changes came about *after* the BB was printed.
*edit: I meant "they'll not be confused if they take... Etc etc" Last edited by Greem; 18 Jan 2014 at 00:50. |

The words used are certainly tortured though....is there a "plain english" version of the BB? |

So there is a complete overhaul
14.5.1 should a car leave the track for any reason and without prejudice of 14.5(c) Problem with this is under the new amendments, there is no 14.5(c) Last edited by gachjoel; 19 Jan 2014 at 15:13. |

As I see it, the addition of "one car's width" clarifies & quantifies the previous ruling, making reporting crowding more a statement of fact than an opinion.
"If it can be measured, it can be controlled." |
