This is the first 24 hour enduro win for the ex-F1 Judd engine and another win for the venerable Dallara built chassis. The Sports racer 2 class was taken by another Judd powered entry in a Lola chassis for Risi Competizione driven by Anthony Lazzarro, Ralf Kelleners, Terry Borcheller and (?) Rand. Good to see Lazzarro get back into the winner's circle after his aborted NASCAR attempt. The winning GTS entry of Rocketsports Racing was a strong win for this veteran team in the Jaguar XKR. The Jag was driven by Paul Gentilozzi, Brian Simo, Scott pruett and Michael Lauer. This is incredibly the 7th class win for Pruett at the Rolex. The ever present Porsche GT3R took class honors in GT with The Racer's Group team driven by Buckler, Schrom, Bernhard and Bergmeister. The American GT class was taken by th Flis Motorsports Corvette driven by Conway, Goad, Cissuklli, and Pilgrim. These cars are essentially SCCA GT-1 tube framed sports cars. Congrats are in order for all the winners. |

What the results don't show is that the SRP cars put up a really great show. There were many different leaders in the early going. This tells me that the shorter sprint races will be just great. The cars seem evenly matched and the level of competition is getting better. I have ignored the GrandAm in the past, but now I think it is really worth a serious look. The ALMS and GrandAm have proven that they are both going their own seperate ways, so we may as well enjoy both. With the WSCC growing to an expected 40 entries, we could be headed into another sportscar racing boom.
All we need now is for someone to take it to Audi. |

Yea!! We Won! Actually, it's just a bunch of my parts that were on that car,so I really can't claim much, though the team engineer, Ron Mathews (a good friend) really can. He's happy as a clam! Good race. We unofficially call the Ferrari/Judd car "The Fudd", or more affectionately, "Elmer". Last edited by enzo; 5 Feb 2002 at 05:08. |
