Danny Watts 1st (3rd year in category, 4th year of slicks and wings, experienced team)
Steven Kane 25th (1st year in category, 1st year of slicks and wings, brand new team to championship) I'm not saying the judge's decision is right or wrong, or that either driver is better than the other. All I'm saying is that at this point in time, it's not a particularly fair comparison of the two drivers. |

It's the first time of wings for alot of drivers that showed way better pace then Mr. Kane. Slicks however...I think pretty much the whole grid are quite familiar with..

Its also intresting to notice that Steven Kanes team mate Charles Hollings was faster than him overall, and it looked as though Charles Hollings was having lots of problems through out the test. How fast is Steven Kane or Should drivers like Charles Hollings get some credit when they are faster than high profile drivers like Steven Kane. Regardless of the experience of the team it is important that drivers are faster than their team mates so lets watch this closely.

According to the official test times on Wednesday Charles was 29th fastest overall, as opposed to Steven being 20th! On the second day of testing Charles was slightly faster (1:07.292), with Steven being one just step behind him (1:07.335).

And being "just a step behind" Hollings is suppose to make him AYDA special? Lets hope he picks up some speed along with the pre-season testing. Unfortunatly he's got alot to prove.

My point is that the Judges had six drivers to choose from. I would have thought that the winner of this award would be able to go straight into a category and make waves from the start (a la Ant Davidson). There are new guys in FRenault who are up the front straight off and Kane is not. |

You have to remember that Mackie are new to this formula, only getting hold of two old cars in mid Jan. They have had little time to get on the pace of Manor and Motorworld who have had two full years to sort things and build data which is so valuable these days.

Steven deserved to win the young driver award. Give the guy a chance, I think its unfair that you should judge him so early on!! be ashamed of yourself.

So Clyde , why was Kane slow , was it the driver or was it the team ? , if it was the team , then your point about the driver isnt really valid . surely its too early to be going on about all this. where's MACKMOT ? , maybe he will have something to say about this thread , and can shine some light on the situation for us. |

Given how tight a grid FRS is, its better to talk about differences in lap time than placing. 25th is a lot closer to the front in FRS than it is in Fords or F3

Was that Knockhill or Brands Indy? At any rate, times are more important than position in rating speed

I think TVR is right KANE is not that good just look at the ffzetec winter series, he was in the so called best team , and he was very average against people he made look weak in the junior championship.
maybe Mackie did have a special car? He will leave Mackie for sure, as his farther will think his son is unbeatable , "well mr kane he is now with the big boys , and so is Mackie". AUTOSPORT YOU GOT IT WRONG. |

I think Kane has made the same big (and expensive) mistake as many others this season by jumping on the Renault bandwagon.
He hasn't a hope in hell of winning FR (sorry, I really have nothing against him, and think he deserved the YD award), especially with a new team. Money would have been better spent in ford. |
