"The Adelaide-based producer said yesterday that it was keen to race a """special V8 Magna""" against the Holden commodores and Ford falcons in Australia's top racing series
There is room for another manufacturer to be involved , said Mitsubishi President Tom Phillips lol here we go again |

Holden & Ford are crapping on with "they will fail", "it won't be good for the sport", "they shouldn't be allowed in". And Tony would do anything to keep Henry and the General happy.
I say, the more the merrier. |

Unless they build a cast iron block pushrod 5L V8 they won't be in and I can't see anyone designing and building one of those these days.

hmmmm, i am all for more manufacturers joining, but i'm not sure if i am for someone competing who doesn't sell a V8 and doesn't sell a rear drive car. Then again, an Opel Astra competes in the DTM, and where can you buy a rear wheel drive V8 Astra. I prefer to see cars raced in a similiar configuration to how they are sold on the road.
Not that AVESCO ever follow the rule book, but is there a rule in the rule book to actually stop them from racing, is there a rule that says Holdens & Fords only? |

There will NEVER bee a Magna in V8 Supercars with the present rules, its as simple as that. You can compare it to DTM all you like but V8 Supercars will always be for Falcons and Commodores.

Apparently Tom Phillips has assured his Japanese overlords that Mitsubishi will finish no lower than third in the manufacturers points in their first season.
That's pretty big of him. LOL. If they let Mitsu in then maybe they do it with a Mopar engine. If Holden could use a Chevy before Holden themselves had put one in a Commodore (I know that for a fact) then surely Mitsu is entitled to the current Mopar V8. That'll put a cat among the pigeons. Although we still have the RWD problem. |

ah yes i'd forgotten about the DaimlerChrysler connection, well then they possibly have an engine in the Mopar V8, and when the AWD Ralliart Magna comes out, they have a car, just disconnect the drive to the front wheels i guess.
Still, it has to be seen whether AVESCO will allow it, or as i said previously, if there is a rule that can actually stop another manufacturer enetring, no matter what cochrane says about it. |

The Trade Practices Act would forbid anything as silly as directly blocking a manufacturer from entering a category.

Chevrolet V8s were being used in V8 Supercars as early as 1993, Chevrolet V8 first appeared in Holden road cars in 1999.

The R&D guys at Fishermans Bend got there first Chev engine delivered to them (for use in a Commodore) about Easter 1995. They were the 286kw Corvette engine.

In all honesty who runs a Ford diff?
There would be no Ford parts in any of those diffs. And how many of you know where the Ford 9" diff came from (and it wasn't for automobile use) |

I think you'll find that the centre carriers usually come from Ford SVO. The axles and tubes are local custom jobs and the centres from wherever.

Nah they were around before Ford put them into trucks!
They were designed for Military use during the Korean war as a multi purpose diff that was easily replaced in the field. |

Back to the Magna thing. What is wrong with using the Dodge NASCAR engine stoked down a little?
