Noise around and about suggests that AVESCO has been toying with the idea that the "Main Event" be a 2 driver race... of 500km in duration... just like the old Nissan 500 at that track...

It was Eastern Creek's debut event, with television and everything... the circuit's amenities at the time were a little underdone... (arguably not much has changed ) so the crowd didnt really warm to it.

This was 1990, where there werent so many competitive cars around, and you saw the likes of Colin Bond sharing a Sierra with Glenn Seton....

What's with QR getting a 280 Km race? It's also interesting to see that they've come up with a format for the Shanghai round so maybe it will go ahead.

Heres what I think they should do for the main event:

Friday: Practice, Qualifying
Saturday: Top 10 S'Out, 100km race.
Sunday: 300km race run in championship reverse grid order (ie Thexton 1st, Murphy 35th )

Man that would be good to watch, especially given the creeks "hard to pass" nature!

Imagine turn one!.

Keep in mind that most races (Adelaide, Bathurst aside) are based around time then rounded up or down - this is solely for TV purposes of course...

(Why is it you see your spelling/grammar errors AFTER you click post?? )

So let's see ... qualifying and a top 10 shootout followed by a race in reverse grid order. Hmm, so M.Skaife would go out and scorch around EC in 27min35sec in qualifying to put himself in the top 10 shootout, where he would need to run a 1hr15min43sec lap to ensure pole.

Great entertainment!

Why have different formats for different rounds.
All races with the exception of Bathurst and Sandown should be a 300km race on a sunday.
Have a top ten shootout on the Saturday, and then the other runners who failed to make the top 10 in friday practice have a short 20-30 mins race between them. Then it would be an advantage to be in the Top 10 because then you dont have the chance of damaging your car in the saturday race.
The finishing results of the 11-35position saturday results become your sunday starting grid.
Or maybe even give the oppurtunity for another 10 cars to run in the saturday race, so the last 10 from that race miss out on the sunday race. Would give the slow runners from Friday a chance to redeem themselves, and allow a better spectacle.
The ten or so guys that get the Cut on saturday for finishing in the bottom 10 have a 20-30 min race on Sunday morning to keep sponsers happy.. Call it the BigPond Series or something (and then it gives the lesser guys who
cant qualify for the main race every weekend something to fight for other then the Konica series)..
Thats my theroy about what should happen, or maybe even scrap the konica series and run them under this format to.... who knows..
we need to have unity in format for most races though.

Er, you made a mistake here. Bathurst is usually a series of sprint races of which the length of each is determined on the day by the bureaucrats in "race control".

Anyone know what the scoring system will be like this year? Will they continue with the flip the sticks in the air and let's see where they fall system or will they have a consistant system where we can easily keep track of who's where. And will they have that silly "drop worst round" setup as well, or has that been scrapped?

I wish they'd make up their mind if they want the 300k races or 100k sprints. I don't want to see any of thise 280k pointlessness.

I'd just like to say something
*coughDTMcough*

There, got that off my chest.

(I'd that is, on all the circuits that can support it.)

Maybe when QR signs with CAMS they get another 20km added to the race distance

How the hell can they make the last round of a single driver championship a two driver race?

- Either make every round a two-driver race, or
- run all the single driver races to a standard format, then have your two or three endurance races counting for the Australian Endurance Championship.

Best bit about the Nissan 500 was they ran it on a Saturday, and Murray Walker was in the commentary box (i recall him calling Mallala, Mallah)

Hmmm, I have wanted a third 2 driver race for a while now, but methinks it shouldn't be at the last round. Imagine say hypothetically, Marcos is gunning for the Championship, and Russell doesn't get the belt done up properly................

I say the Shanghai 500 sounds better

And 280km and 140km, wtf?

And with the 140km races, why has Oran Park moved back to twin races, rather than the single one?

D'oh! So the crowd has to wait for the later race silly!

I guess it is a sweetheart deal with the local residents so they can still use their roads around OP during the afternoon

Oran Park probably went back to two races to help with tyre life; from memory, they really struggled last year, but if that's the case, how does splitting it into two races help that?

No just a normal format, untill the last race, then you run the grid in CHAMPIONSHIP reverse, not shootout or race 1!

So that the three or so series protaganists all start from the back of the grid....
