The article is expressing an opinion that the author thinks that Trulli should be sacked... its not a fact yet

I wouldnt be surprised if this turns out to be correct though ...
Personally i wouldnt trust Flavio as far as i could throw him ... Which incidently wouldnt be very far .... as he looks like a fat tub of lard and i dont feel very well today Last edited by Sato san; 12 Sep 2004 at 15:33. |

Renault though have handled the Trulli situation terribly... By his standards he had a great 1st half of the season oly to be told that due to the mistake in France he would be sacked...
Alonso hasnt been mistake free... and if they did sack him did they really need to announce it with half a year to go! |

Toyota must be having second thoughts about Trulli (if indeed that's where he's heading)he was nowhere today and isn't likely to be for the rest of the season,so what does Flavio do?,second place in the championship is worth a lot of money is it worth a driver change this late in the season, you'd have to go for Fisi or not bother at all.

I can sympathise with Trulli's situation, it must be hard to work in such conditions.

IMO there is no way that Renault will be giving him a substandard car that would account for the poor performance. They cannot afford to be beaten by BAR.
It is true that they will freeze him out of all the development side - that always happens. So, it is possible that he is now 'out of there' mentally and therefore happy to coast. What's he got to lose. I know all drivers are supposed to compete but if it's gone sour with Flav - he may be choosing to punish him on the track. That's why Renault will ditch him very soon. They can't afford to have a driver potentially losing them points trhough grudge. I'd be surprised if McNish got it. Would he want it? I'd say Montagny - to keep the French paymasters happy! |

Back to the topic if we may.....
IF, Renault are to pay Trulli off, surely the best solution is to get Fizzi into the drive early. Sauber are safe in their constructors spot and too far off a higher slot - a nice pay off would swell the coffers and allow them to give Luizzi a run out for the remaining races...??? If one were being subjective on the matter, it's fair (ish) comment that the 1st half of this season has seen an unusually consistent Trulli, whereas the 2nd half has been more reminiscent of his F1 career and reputation to date. Whatever, it makes no sense for a team to compromise their own effort or for a multi billion dollar organisation like Reanult to shoot itself in the foot to spite Trulli, who is of little significance to them in the overall sceheme of things. It's being reported that Trulli had an entirely new car for Monza despite the fact that the team could find nothing wrong with his old one, so maybe it is mind games? It's tempting to say that Toyota must be sweating a little over their driver choice for 2005? |

Mind you can't be working out much worse than they have now.
MG said today the set up was right and he couldn't understand why they were going backwards - that surely implies ... Last edited by Hugh Jarce; 12 Sep 2004 at 17:48. |

it is weird how jarno has lost pace, if it were anyone but he (or ralf schumi) you'd instantly believe that flavio was doing something dodgy...but because its trulli, and he has his weird moments...its impossible to tell. Last edited by acf8181; 12 Sep 2004 at 19:19. |

The chassis he was using in the last 3 races has been completely demoted to the spare chassis, not even the T-car! Why did they persist with it for THREE races, when Jarno was saying there was something wrong with it? Whatever you want to believe, something strange has been happening at Renault, and Flavio knows Jarno well enough to know what kind of effect these things would have on him. The plan was probably to de-stabilise Jarno a little bit so Fernando could look good and still keep second in the Constructor's, but they misjudged it. Now that it has gone wrong, the team has only itself to blame. And Fernando has STILL not managed to overtake Jarno in the WDC! Last edited by LindaC; 12 Sep 2004 at 19:55. |

Yeah there could actually be some truth in this story, Autosport are reporting that Trulli may be shown the door before the season end.

Thread title changed (added ?????) to reflect that it is just a rumour. Although it got me to read the thread quickly!
Also how far Sato San can throw team prinicples is more of a Gravel Trap thread. |

This would be potentially great news if he is out for the rest of the season.
It may just give a chance for a new driver who can actually be bothered to drive fast for the last four races. so who do we reckon could replace him? I still don't buy the JV rumours, and I seriously doubt Sauber would want fizzi to go at this stage of the season when the car seems to be improving. Unless he wants to give Luzzi a shot.) the websites seem to discount montagny too. so rent-a-sub Pizzonia? / McNish would probably only be as good as Trulli / some-time-tester Koveleinen?! / Da Matta!?! may be quite exciting. |

Renault have actually strongly denied the story today, but think about it seriously, rather than fancifully. Why would you be so sure that a driver who doesn't know the car at all, or the engineers, would be capable of getting better results than a driver who has worked with them for 3 years? Even an experienced driver is going to struggle. Jarno was given a different chassis for Monza, and he couldn't even make sense of it! Say what you like about him, he's always been pretty good at setting a car up! The best bet would be Montagny, who at least knows the car and the engineers, but he's never raced in F1 and could be a liability. The most reliable thing would be to stick with Jarno and take the gremlins out of the software. ;-) Going back to fanciful, why would Villeneuve fancy it? What if he did drive the last three races and was rubbish? Don't forget Fernando has to get the better results. How would that help Jacques reputation? Very risky, I'd say. |

Many divers have "lost pace" after renault / bennaton have decided to dispence with then, Button certainly had a bad end to his last season there after Alonso was confirmed, I seem to remember Fisi getting noicably slower also.
Having said that Truli is as graceless in defeat as he was in victory, his press conference in Monaco was stunningly pompus. He deserves a top drive less than DC. |

I think there's something in what Trulli's saying.
You really don't get so bad so quickly. Until the half way stage Trulli was one of the best drivers of the year, now he looks like Ricardo Rosset. I've never trusted Briatore, drivers have 'mysteriously' dropped off the pace before once it's been established they're not in his plans for next season, to make the driver who's being retained look better. Button 2002, Wurz 2000 spring to mind. Trulli's one of the fastest drivers out there, I know he can let his head drop but I absolutely refuse to believe that such a drop in pace is completely down to him. |

I feel sorry for Trulli if he is kicked out, and I also think there could be some truth in his claims. but what other options are there, IF Flavio is really as innocent as he claims to be. He has a paranoid driver who is not competetive. Would you keep him, under these difficult circumstances? Surely something will be done.
