autosport young driver award - YOUR winner
who's going to win and who should win is usually a totally different matter. but if it was your choice and if it was based on their past acheivements, who would you choose?

It's also interesting to note the poll results so far... Out 11 of votes cast only one person seems to think that 'laughing boy' Conway deserves to win it |

my apologies, what I meant to say was, Mike Conway
or are we supposed to vote for who we'd like to win it vs who we think will win it? |

I'm going for Johnny Kennard.
I think he's great. He's driven superbly during this years FPA championship! |

I voted Scott Mansell because I'm impressed about the things he did in a F1 car at his age (he won in the EuroBOSS)... Excuse me but I'm ignorant about the achievements of other nominees (except a little about Comtec driver Susie Stoddart).

I've gone for Kennard because his name sounds like a very very rude word in french, and that would be fun for the-website-that-cannot-be-named.

Mike Conway, I think he has really knuckled down this year and become a true professional driver. Next year he will be a front runner in F3 and I think only him and Di Resta have what it takes to be F1 drivers.

Believe me it’s a F1 car on a shoestring...which makes his achievements even more impressive.
As for Conway, yes he is very good, but you would be too if you'd had the very best equipment and backing your whole career. For me it will just take the P**s if someone that has no issues with finding budgets (thanks to Daddy) wins the prize, which essentially should go to a talented STRUGGLING driver, not one that can win the 2004 F/Renault championship in a car without a sponsor on it. The prize shouldnt go to someone with no money. Whats the point it becomes a waste of money. The prize should be to help to someone who has the makings and funding of an F1 driver to achieve his goal.
If someone wins the £75k and cannot afford to fund the rest of a £500k season in Formula 3 or £150k season in FRenault, what is the point of them winning it. |

Er, even if it was (which I don't know) £125k out of a F3 budget of £500k still leaves a whopping £375k to find... or it's a(nother) season in FRenault!

Granted! Personally, I don't think the judges should be swayed by the candidates' existing ability to attract funds. Being an award winner is bound to attract lots of sponsors' attention to bridge the gap between the prize money and a racing budget, as I'm sure Mr Jinxx could testify...,

I'd like Conway to win it - he's showing speed and maturity and frankly I think could do with the money to further his career!
Di Resta runs him close, but I don't see that little spark that Conway seems to have. What I've seen of Kennard was "good but not that good". The depth of talent in FPA doesn't make it a cut-throat series, really. I'm afraid FBMW sends me to sleep - it's just another FPD - so I can't comment much on Bridgman. Susie Stoddart is.... "making steady progress". I don't think she's going to go much further in single seaters, and that's not what the award is about. Scott Mansell could well be god's gift, but until he gets his bum into a mainstream car he can't prove it against other drivers. Jury's still out. (I'd love to see him vs Edwin Jowsey in GP2 sometime...) |
