Volvo lineup?

What will Volvo's line-up be in next years ETCC?
Rydell will definately drive for them because of his record for Volvo, and the fact that he knows lots about the way the Volvos handle.

I would like to see Matt Neal in the second car because he was easily the best driver that Peugeot had at the start of the year.

If they decide to run a third car, then I think it should be David Leslie because he is a long time touring car driver so he could help Matt and Rickard out with driving techniques (not that RR needs them).

BTW, once Prodrive get the car running, expect it to fly

Just a thought- might the drivers involved in Prodrive's Ferrari GT project have any bearing on it?- when it was announced, one of the reasons given for Rydell's involvement was that it gave him an opportunity to race on the European tracks used by the ETCC at the same meetings, as part of the preparation for the Volvo ETCC programme. If you take this to one logical conclusion it gives you Rydell, Peter Kox, and Menu...

But keep in mind that the rules promises at least 24 cars on the grid for each race, which could mean six cars from each manufacturer the first year... 6 Volvos...

Not quite...

Six manufacturers into 24 cars equals 4 cars per manufacturer. And i think some privateers will definately enter, such as ABG and JSM did in the BTCC this year.

Speaking of the BTCC, do yiou think Volvo or any of the other six manufacturers will enter the BTCC next year?

Sorry, looked at one of my earlier news about this when it was not so many manufacturers coming...

Entering the BTCC? No, not next year, I think it would cost too much for them, maybe a few races. But doing full season in BTCC and ETCC nah...

But hey, I could be wrong...

one snag might be!!

Rydell is under contract to Volvo that is fact - Prodrive are the ones interested in running a car in the btcc next season - and let me get this straight not volvo(yet)

prodrive hope to convince volvo that it will be worthwhile to have a full manufacturers supported team - lets hope so - as we only have vauxhall and peugeot who are the fully subscribed manufacturers for the btcc in 2001!!

therefore volvo may not want rydell to represent prodrive as a volvo CAR driver if they do not fully support the series

So a fully-fledged Volvo attack on the BTCC next year looks unlikely. Oh well, i'm convincwed they'll be back sooner rather than later.

On a totally different subject, remember the Volvo DTM car tested by (Jorg Van Ommen?) a year or so ago. Any plans for a DTM Volvo attack?

The Volvo DTM car was built by Zaakspeed and had nothing to do with Volvo more than that they were in contact with Volvo and asking if they could run it privately like ABT-Audi. Volvo said no. With Volvo aiming for the ETCC a DTM entry is highly unlikely...

And the same goes for the C70 DTM Coupe Zaakspeed build, there is no chance Volvo would race with that model since it is soon not being produced any more

Why?
Menu is a plonker, and he only won those titles because he had a half decent car.

I say we put him in a Pug 406 coupe and see how well he goes then!

Even as a Volvo owner, I must say, Volvo must be stupid!! If you're not intending to race in the DTM series, why not have someone else spend their money, but giving you exposure. This "not interested" stand is contrary to earlier rumors about Volvo wanting to race in the DTM and not wanting to be embarassed by the Zakspeed team??

Even if the model is not being produced for much longer, surely it is nice to have the name "Volvo" being mentioned often to race fans??? Perhaps, the name will stick to them when they head to a dealership in the future???

But, racing with an model that isnt being sold isnt any good advertising is it? They race with the car to advertise their make and to make people want to buy that car...

Is the C70 no longer for sale in Europe already? It is still for sale in NA? I thought it will be around to '02-'03? As well,it would be Zakspeed's money anyways? So Volvo could have had advertising for their company and C70 from '00-'03??? 3-4 years of free advertising sounds pretty nice to me?
