Ralf's Replacement
Ralf Schumacher had said that unlikely he will race in the French GP on 4 July following his 180mph crash at Indianapolis.
We will have the answer which driver will replace him, sooner or later. So, make it just to fun like prediction competition. This is considered most likely to be one of the two Williams test drivers, Marc Gene or Antonio Pizzonia to be a temporary replacement. But the Guardian reported that former Williams driver Jacques Villeneuve could be given a run. So, who will replace Ralf in the French GP? Last edited by Led ZeppF1; 23 Jun 2004 at 07:41. |

Gene will get the drive - he's done thousands of miles of testing in that car and he's already subbed for Ralf before (doing a good job in the process). Pizzonia would be next up due again to the amount of mileage he's done in the car.

Has to be Gene, not enough time to slot in JV.

Depends how well Ann Bradshaw and Jayme Brito can negotiate with Williams on Pizzonia's behalf. If rumours be true Sam Michael is a big fan and Gene got his reward last year...hmmm...will probably be Gene though!
Going for Villeneuve would annoy Gene and Antonio too much for it to be worth it. After all, Gene is the teams 3rd Driver... |

It could be Villeneuve, in the same way that Mel Gibson culd cnvert to Judaism tomorrow. Or they could try to push a Superlicense through for Mel.
He'd be too expensive, doesn't know the car unlike the other two contenders, doesn't already have a status at the team to live up to, would be driving for hismelf rather than the team, and generally wouldn't make sense |

Gene is the best choice . but they might put Antonio . just to test his ability to race the Williams .. and making the French GP a test ..

I think it will be Marc Gene, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pizzonia could have a go in Silverstone, if Ralf doesn't return there...

I think it will be Gene. But I'd love to see Villenuve in the car.

Gene, did well after being thrown in at the last minute in Monza 2003, i think he can repeat a good result this year, plus, he has thousands of test miles in the car!

Gene. He knows the car best. Why on earth give a ride to JV???? It's ridiculous all these rumours. It's getting REALLY pathetic.

Now if the question was who do you want to stand in for Ralf, I'd say Pizzonia - I think he deserves a try.
But as it's who will replace Ralf, I have to say Gene - I believe he has priority as Williams' nominated reserve and number one test pilot. If Villeneuve gets the drive, I'll buy every single Villeneuve fan on 10Tenths a beer... |

I think that Gene is the nominated driver but like many here Iwould love to see Villeneuve back behind the wheel of an F1 car
To the guy who suggested the JV would be too expensive I disagree I suspect that He would almost pay Williams for the chance right now |

I voted JV.
If he does get a chance to replace Ralf he shouldn't do it. Not enough time in a car. If he's not on it could ruin his chances of getting seat next season. |

Mark Webber... I am not so sure that Toyota will be announcing SchumiLite in France for 2005 either....

I think Pizzonia should get a shot; Gene did ok in last year's stint, but just ok. Of course Jacques would be great, but in all honesty, I just can't see it. It wouldn't be fair for him or the William's team. It is curious however that Williams has not announced anything yet, particularly with Jacques in the UK this weekend.
