Fine, no warm-up I guess then.

There will be a new format by Silverstone, but how exactly will it be isn't confirmed yet.
Hmm, parc fremee rules are a bit useless. I can't see what's the use of it. They already have seals applied on their engine so they won't be able to change expensive parts. I can't see why not a Sunday Warm-up. |

Can't say I'm happy. I'd prefer them to just do it like last year. Friday flat-out in whatever format, saturday as it was. Maybe run 2 car per team at once and allow 2 attempts at the flying lap.
As it is, I see them now going back to driver's and cars having to spend time searching for qualifying setups. Whining about having their best runs blocked, qualifying tactics, qualifying tyres and other underhanded tactics (you wait for someone to get caught cheating. It'll be there). Brilliant. Goodbye to fair coverage of the teams, so that the Minardi and Jordan supporters can actually barrack on their teams. And I don't like aggregate times. They encourage holding back in order to finish the pre-requisite amount of laps. No... I don't think I like this. |

Well ITV said in their pre-race show that the two sessions would be 25 minutes.
Are they the only ones to pick up on this? |

Noticed that myself, yesterday they said 2 x 20 mins, today, 2 x 25 mins, have they up somewhere, or has Max changed his mind (again) overnight?

Overall, I like the idea. I have my reservstions about the engine rule and the aggregate times, but the idea that they qualify on low fuel and then can refuel for the race is fantastic. It means that we will be able to see who is GENUINELY quick straight away.
For those hoping for rule changes to stop Ferrari winning, you're looking in the wrong place. It's the other teams that have to do that, not the rulemakers!! Now, if they can get through some of the technical proposals and change the points system, they might just be on to something.... |

I do wish they'd stop changing their minds. They aren't giving different systems long enough to prove themselves. It's difficult to judge the success of the last system cos it's only been implemented for about six races. On the other hand, I'm glad they dropped that daft two one hour, one lap session in succession idea!

proposed qualifying changes
the changes proposed for qualifying as of silverstone suggest 2 sessions of 20 mins each with an aggregate of each drivers 2 best laps making up there qualifying time, no more single lap. dosen't this completely take away the best qualifying lap scenario wheteher looking at single lap or the old 1hr qualifying sessions? sounds silly to me. what do you all think?

I would prefer an outright fastest lap being the pole-decider (with the drivers given several chances to do it), but I'm so pleased that they're not qualifying on race fuel, I can live with the changes for the moment. Then we can ban refuelling altogether (in my dreams!).

Well, its confirmed. F1 will have a new and shorter qualifying format from next month's British Grand Prix.
"The final version of qualifying procedures was agreed and signed off today and will be introduced at Silverstone," McLaren's Ron Dennis told reporters at the Canadian Grand Prix. http://www.reuters.com/locales/c_new...toryID=5406712 |

Essentially, tehre will be 2 seperate 20-minute sessions, with a 20-minute break between them, which will see all the cars on the track at the same time. The fastest laps they can record in each session will be added together to create the grid.
For example, if Michael does a 1 minute 17.650 in session 1 and a 1 minute 17.800 in session 2, and Rubens does a 1 minute 17.700 in session 1 and a 1 minute 17.740 in session 2, Rubens will be ahead of Michael on the grid (not likely, but there you go) |

It's actually two 25 minute sessions with a 10 minute break.

I personally don't find one car going around on its own that interesting. Therefore I'm not excited by this at all, I think its just going to be a funk up.
What exactly wrong with Last years system? 2003 was the best season for years and i think this is only going to benefit the teams that are already at the top and reduce races to an even bigger procession. |

If you don't find one car going round on its own interesting, why do you want the 2003 system?
The new system, which you don't want, will end the practice of cars being out own their own. |

That was with an hour to set 1 good time, now they need to find room on the track to set a good time in 20 minutes twice (and Spa aside, there aren't any really long tracks where traffic doesn't come in to play). - As somebody else said, 2003 was a fantasic year; Renault snapping at the heels, BAR on the up, Toyota & Jaguar running light confusing the first stint, a 3 way fight for the championship, 10 potential winners - so what do they do Change it!!!??!! WHY??????? Last edited by courageous; 28 Jun 2004 at 16:28. |

but 2004 hasn't been a great year for that. Perhaps showing that the racing isn't so dependant on the Q system. So lets make Q more exciting.
The complain about traffic the old way and they complain about the weather and (lack of) rubber on the track now. Besides: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=56304 |
