F1 season could expand to 19 races

The Formula One season could be expanded to a record 19 races next year following a meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday.

A total of 19 dates have been blocked off for the 2005 F1 championship, which will likely start on March 6 and won't conclude until October 23......
Well, more races are good, especially when not at the expense of some classic venues. Discussions of a possible second US GP are also interesting, though not likely to come to fruition anytime soon.

Not so fast!

The calendar shows nineteen possible dates, rather than nineteen events.

The teams would have to agree to it being more than seventeen.

We'll have to wait until the final schedule comes out in September.

If it is nineteen, that'll be this year's events plus Turkey.

They did indeed, but most of them have said they feel that's too many.

Are you sure? There is more countries that would like to organize one of the formula one races. E. g. Russia or several Arabic lands.

That is correct, Tamas, but Turkey has a deal in place for next year, the others don't.

Really! I've heard something about, but if it is not organized, than which circuit will replace it?

Orriginally at the start of the year this years race was the last at Imola but I belive that curcuit managemant and the FIA have come to terms over some changes and it may be on again next year.
The 19th race is Turkey.
If Imola misses out the replacement race will be in Europe at an unnamed venue.

The Grumpy1
P.S. The teams have already agreed to 19 races in 05 and 20 in 06.Testing days will be cut by 4 days a year I belive.

Re: F1 calendar for 05' shows 19 events.

Imola should be done away with, as should all naff circuits if Grand Prix racing wants to be respected more in motorsport as a whole.

I agree with increasing the calendar by a few races however (18-22 ish) with less testing. But the season should not be saturated in too many races.

I'd rather get rid of Hungary than Imola, but what right does Italy and Germany have to stage 2 races a year anyway?

IMHO it's fully unfair too that some countries (Italy and Germany) have the right to organise 2 races a year while there are a lot of other lands that would do everything to have an own formula one race.

The "rights" of these two countries:
The grand prix in Imola belongs to San Marino;
The race on the Nürburgring is organised as European GP, which has been already found in England as well.
