Sorry its taken so long to get back folks but I had to check on something.
When I refered to pay driver I didn,t say who was paying.Apparently D.Richards has made the offer to Jag for the rest of the season that Ant take the seat BAR pay fee foe doing it thus giving Davo race day experience in an F1.
Its one thing to practice another to race.

When grumpy1 mentioned pay driver, I immediately thought Zonta. But he's not a pay driver either. But he'd undoubtedly hold out for the Toyota seat that was to go to Ralf, but may not now.

Just some random thoughts and observations.
Quite possibly Tonio Liuzzi with Red Bull backing. With more Red Bull $$$ at Jag in '05 and they are backing Liuzzi... and he looks to be very promising to be in a Jag in '05... start him in F1 now rather than 1st race of '05 = the process starts 8 months earlier! The '04 Jaguar has been quick @ times but unreliable. If they can make some minor alterations for the '05 Jaguar a la what BAR did this past off-season... and now seeing how competitive BAR is this yr... Jaguar could do much the same in 2005, so RIGHT NOW put who you're going to have in there next yr. as a "let's get acquainted"!!

Ant's main strength IS as a racer...any driver can practice!
Ant's much more important to B.A.R as a Friday tester than he would be as a spare race driver this season!

IMO, anyone going to Jag in the current management climate at said F1 team would be career suicide.

They don't give their drivers a real chance (apart from Webber) and I just get the impression they don't know what the hell they are doing.

They've openly said that taking Klien in a race seat was a mistake, but in the general scheme of things I don't think he is doing that badly.

They just seem to be acting like a bunch of amateurs considering they are supposed to be a manufacturer team. By that I mean management and mean no disrespect to the technical team, they are doing the best they can. They're even stooping so low with things like the diamond on the nose to promote a movie and rubbish like that. It's almost laughable really.

The point is that Webber will be gone so whoever is in the team will have a chance to shine. (Unless they make Klien number 1 which i very much doubt!)

I fully expect Webber will see out the year at Jaguar, then move on.

He's more valuable to them in the car.

I think Webber has made the best of a bad job by Jag. We haven't seen him drive in a good car, so when he moves we'll see if he proves that it was his driving that made the car look better than it was.

If this is the case I can see Jag realising the truth and sticking with what they have, or looking at getting rid of both drivers (whoever they may be) mid-season.

Only then I think we will see the intelligence (or maybe lack of) Jag management.

Spudgun, I totally agree with your view of the Jag management. It has been laughable!

However i am just saying that if Webber does leave, whoever steps into the car against Klien will be able to prove themselves to the paddock on an equal footing with Klien rather than against a highly rated Webber (possibly in an inferior car to him as well, who knows?)and be able to have a strong showing. This means it may not be as bad to join Jag as some people think.

I totally agree with you there D_Marshall, I was speaking under the premise of the original post that Webber may move to Williams before the season is out. I should have made it clearer!

By that I mean Jag management would base performance in the same car by what has gone before with the existing car.

Next year's car (if they decide to show up as is a bit of speculation right now) will be a whole different beast and they won't have a leg to stand on comparison-wise.

Jag could do a lot worse than making a phone call to Mr Zonta I think. He's been pretty sharp this season and has quite a lot of F1 experience - I think he'd do pretty well, given the chance.

As much as I'd like to see it Omega, I can't really see it happening. Despite what has happened since, he never really got on with F1. It would be great marketing wise, but I still can't see the remote possibilty of it ever happening.
