Surely this can only be good news for the British GT series ? There seems to be far too many new series springing up in an already overcrowded market nowadays...

According to Motorsport News, the Brookspeed Viper and Lister teams may be switching to British GTs.

Full report:
ISC Collapses The BRSCCs new venture into GT Racing for 2001, the Interactive Sportscar Championship, has been canned after just one event. The championship, which was due to race at Thruxton on July 29th and at Donington Park, a week later has now left both events without headline races, with the event at Thruxton currently limited to just three championships. The only round of the ISC took place at Donington Park on June 3, and with only seven finishers, was won by the Lister Team of Dave Warnock and James Pickford. Many of the teams were unhappy that they had not received prize money from the first round, and broke away from the series to focus on the British GT Championship, run as part of the Powertour package. As reported in MOTORSPORT NEWS, Brookspeed Racing (Viper), Mike Haines Racing (Lotus Esprit), CGS Lister (Lister Storm) and Pro-Tran Racing (Venturi) had all withdrawn from the series, leaving just a handful of eligible cars registered for the remaining races. Rounds of the series to be held at Silverstone and Rockingham had already been cancelled, as had the first two events at Brands Hatch and Snetterton as the cars were yet to be fully prepared. The BRSCCs Chief Executive, Grant Stewart, told MOTORSPORT NEWS, ‘The cancellation of the 2001 ISC Championship through failure of the sponsors to honour their contractual obligations is a disappointing but necessary move. The Warnock/Pickford Lister was the first and last winner of a series that promised much, but failed to deliver. The Donington event, which had coverage on ITV saw the Lister recover from a last lap challenge from the Brookspeed Viper of Adam Wilcox and Dave Clark. Neil Cunningham/Peter Cook (Porsche), Jonathan Rowland/Ashley Ward (Porsche), Andy Purvis/Matt Edwards (Marcos), Martin Byford/Ian Ashley (Corvette) and Roger Walters/Tom Bellamy, completed the finishers from the first round, and are therefore the positions in the points table. The Piers Johnson/Chris Ellis Lotus failed post-race scrutineering. Andrew Frampton -Another Club/National series that has fallen apart!!! |

At the start of the season I was looking forward to seeing this, especially as there was rumours of ex-DTM Audis and Mercs, but once it became just another GT series it's better all round that it folds and the British GT series gets back to better health.

I don't think there's enough big teams or money to run 2 major GT professional series in this country.
Hopefully it'll mean more teams into the Brit GT's now.. At least the whole affair wan't dragged out over a couple of years to die.. |

The meeting at Thruxton on July 28/29th for the ISC, is no longer on the BARC (Thruxton page) website, so I assume the whole meeting has been cancelled!

In my view the Brit GT series is way better than ISC ever was. I watched the Donignton Race on ITC and though, yea, its ok, not great but, ok.
I am not surprised it was canned. The Mike Haines Lotus had already gone back to Brit GT. Will the Stealth's be allowed into the Brit GTs???? |
