Team Herdez Driver Comparison
I thought it would be interesting to compare the Herdez drivers because both are pretty highly rated by many people, but they didn't quiet have the car to really make the impact perhaps they deserved at the front.
RHR (qualifying/finishing) : Dominguez (qualifying/finishing) Long Beach - 6/7 : 5/5 Monterrey - 8/8 : 2/3 Milwaukee - 1/1 : 4/8 Portland - 10/12 : 6/17 Cleveland - 9/11 : 11/8 Toronto - 7/8 : 4/17 Vancouver - 10/8 : 4/6 Elkhart Lake - 2/4 : 15/5 Denver - 8/16 : 5/4 Montreal - 9/18 : 3/3 Laguna Seca - 7/5 : 10/11 Las Vegas - 8/13 : 9/7 Australia - 6/5 : 5/3 Mexico City - 9/19 : 15/8 Average Qualifying Position (RHR/Dominguez): 7.1/7th Mean Qualifying Position (RHR/Dominguez): 8th/5th Average Finishing Position (RHR/Dominguez): 9.6/7.5th Mean Finishing Position (RHR/Dominguez): 8th/6.5th Standings in points (RHR/Dominguez): 9th/5th Any surprises there? Statistics certainly aren't everything, what do you think of these two drivers? Last edited by Snrub; 6 Dec 2004 at 20:37. |

To be honest, take out Milwaukee and a couple of strong runs from Dominguez and I wasnt particularly impressed with either of them this year.
Thinking back through the year, both really should have done alot better. They were both involved in waaaay too many incidents (either on their own, or with someone else) which cost them a few results. While at other weekends they were just AWOL |

I was hoping for a bit more from Herdez this season, but they definitely were the wildcard team this year. Would they be fast? If fast would they be smart? It was at least entertaining to see what would happen with them this season. They were always pushing and at least TRYING to make moves rather than be part of a parade and settle for 4th place after 15 laps.

I think the driver element is defenetely there its just that Keith Wiggins needs to find a way to capatalize on the raw talent that both and mario and Ryan have turned in. Maybe one year with Roberto Moreno was too few, I dont know both of these guys went into the team after spending a year of been tutored by a may more experienced driver so maybe they still have that mentality.

Didn't one of their engineers leave at the end of 2003 to join Rocketsports (Brian Ma?).Maybe that weakeneed their efforts. On paper I'd say the drivers are the strongest element, but this is the first spec-chassis-type series Keith Wiggins has failed to be highly competitive in, so it's hard to tell.

Inconsistent would be the word to describe drivers and team. Sometimes one driver was on the boil, next weekend it was the other, another weekend neither were anywhere.

Who do you think has more talent? I've got to go with Dominguez, stats show it was pretty close, but Dominguez generally seemed stronger and often charged through the field.

Dominguez has a bit more experience and is possibly SLIGHTLY quicker - but I'd call them evenly matched.

I'd expect RHR to have the upper hand next year, with that extra bit of experience, an established place in the team, and the loss of Herdez perhaps removing any leaning the team might have (I emphasise MIGHT, there's no evidence of this and I haven't heard anything to that extent from Ryan), but I'd agree that you could throw a blanket over them, they're very close.
