A deal will be struck.

The GPWC said a while back it would "definitely" start a rival series.

Now it's saying it "might".

As that article points out, if the banks and Bernie don't strike a deal with the teams, then their own shares will be worthless.

Political posturing which will see a deal reached.

The dropping of objections to V8s by BMW, Mercedes and Honda is a key part of this.

Yes, the last thing Bernie wants is unity within the manufacturers, looks like Max's little diversion hasn't worked.

Not at all - Bernie does want unity within the manufacturers - because it makes it easier for him to then negotiate them a deal as a group, which I believe will happen.

The GPWC are having to get hard
Bernie is a dreadfull person to try to negotiate with as he fully believes he will win so is giving no concesions.(or when he does he's changing the deal after the fact)
Remember last year when the GPWC lost patience and said they will simply go ahead with the new series anyway because bernie was weltching on everything he said and not taking them seriously?

It does look a little better for the future though now that the banks are starting to assert their authority. They will certainly make a deal with the teams and keep f1 going

I think what Luca's saying is that the manufacturers will decide as early as next year whether an alternative series will take place in 2008, after the agreement ends.

Stephen, surely Bernie would want to hand the baton to someone younger

Why?

I really can't see what Mr Schumacher would have to offer.
