Australia - Road Fines linked to Income
There is a proposal in an Australian State to link level of speeding fines/Road Traffic Infringements with your level of income.
I thought Taxable Income was a matter between the Tax Commissioner and myself. I'd almost suggest breach of discrimination laws too Mike |

I'd be happy with this, except in the case of "Mr NoJob" whose income is 0 (or negative) and therefore having to pay no fine...
I think it should be "means tested" instead of "income related" as there are a *lot* of wealthy people who *earn* squat ! DKGandBH. |

Before we had fixed penalties in the UK that's how they did it here. On a couple of occasions I have managed to get low fines and 6 to 12 months to pay them by pleading poverty.

They do this kind of thing in Finland, some millionaire guy in Helsinki was speeding on his Harley and got a fine in the region of 10 grand if I remember rightly!
