What makes a good GT challenger?

LMP and GTP GTS well we know what might work here.
but what can work in GT?
the almighty Porsche squad has been the benchmark, Ferrari with the 360 now maybe 430, and Panoz (ahem lets see about this)- the wonderful Morgan.
what makes a good GT challenger? engine size horsepower rev range, weights, layout. where are the Fords, Chevy, Dodge and Toyota, and Nissan, and Honda (no Japanese JGTC type either), and Hyundai and TVR and Lotus and the list goes on... it seems this is a good place for a manufacturer to build a proper car supported by customer groups (porsche has done it well) and a few one make series or "Cups" to make the car viable and off we go...
I would have loved to see a MR-S toyota GT- or an NSX GT, or a 350Z GT, Segaris anyone? Ford does have a new mustang albeit heavy and suqare.

What GT needs is a BMW M3 GTR.

TV coverage will have to change in order to make it more interesting for manufacturers, plus the fact that the Porsche domination could scare a lot of manufacturers off as well. TV Coverage is almost always focussed on the higher classes (GT1, LMP1/2) because that's where the big names drive.

that is one reason the new GT formula in GA COULD be good. Right now it pretty much sucks because its a scaled down GT2 with the same variety of cars.

But midseason when there are 05 Z06s, factory GTOs, a Maserati, BMW M3s, a Possible mustang or 2, RX8s, Ferraris and Porsches...it could get pretty interesting...

Reliability is what makes a good GT car

...or just enter into GT3...? whenever they introduce it into a wider area... Surely Porsche can't be going for domination of that, too? I thought that was 360 territory

What makes a good GT challeneger. Well, it needs a decent chassis, able to withstand the bumpy surfaces like Sebring. A low centre of gravity for decent road handling, a powerful but reliable engine cause to take on Porsche and Ferrari your gonna need to run well for the full distance. A good driving team would go a miss either and right now Porsche have all those so anything as good as a 996 is a good bet!
