Best finale in years?
Those final laps were incredible!. CanĀ“t recall a race like this for the last 5 or 6 years.
Thanks Michael. Thanks Fernando. |

They were the best closing laps for years, that has to be the closest finish since the two Ferraris battled it out to the end at Indianapolis a couple of years ago.

Great race and great closing laps, (I'm still spitting blood at ITV tho'). Michael drove brilliantly as did Fernando, who drove the last 4 laps intelligently and calmly.
Bodes well for the rest of the season. |

I haven't been as tense and excited since Adelaide 1994.

I haven't been that tense since uhm.. since Jerez '97 after Schumi performed his infamous Judo chop!
Great race! 3 Points! Last edited by ASCII Man; 25 Apr 2005 at 16:55. Reason: famous or infamous...? spelling too.. |

Yes definately the best finish in years... MS taking all the possible lines to force a mistake... Fernando keeping his head....
probably as good as Mansell VS Senna at Monaco... |

It was a good finish, but not as thrilling as an advert for Ronseal.
Great point in congratulating the drivers for their efforts - throughout the battle it looked like it would go to the wire, and that neither driver would make a mistake or do anything unsporting. Hopefully this will be the first of many classic duels. I certainly can't remember a battle for the lead of similar intensity towards the end of a race - although if Trulli v Button last eyar had been somewhere other than Monaco, that may have been even better, especialyl as both were after a first win. |

i know i should be happy about how good this race was, but i can't help think how good would it have been if kimi was still in it and we got to watch a three way battle to the end. either way i know i will be doubly excited for spain in two weeks. |

That was the most tense race I've watched since Suzuka 1994.

I must say I only usually get as excited as I was yesterday if I'm watching Touring Cars - honestly that was the best finishing laps to a race I've ever seen.
Much of the excitement was translated to the TV purely down to the production team, I felt they achieved a good balance, cutting to Button, then Alonso, back to Schumacher for a while watching his progress in the laps before Michael caught Fernando. |

Spa 2000 when Mika past Schu in the last few laps was better.

That was almost as good as BTCC at Thruxton last year. Watching Yvan Muller held up behind Plato.

1. There was actually a chance that Schuey might be able to overtake Alonso. Monaco is such a ridiculous track for a race that Senna would have had to go for a swim for even Nige to get by in the 3 or so laps he had; 2. There was extra significance, I believe. Senna and Mansell were long-established title contenders and, ahem, sparring partners. Alonso has finally shown that one of the young guns really could be the next 'great'. |

Remember Trulli v Button at Monaco last year? That was a good battle, but somehow you knew that Trulli would hold on. Imola on Sunday though-one for the ages..I honestly did not know until the last few corners whether Alonso would win! It was GREAT

Yes very good - made up for the ridiculous middle part of the race where Schumacher would not even look at Button (over 1.5sec behind him) until JB made a mistake.
