GP2 Race 2 extended

From this weekend, GP2's Sunday race is extended from 80 to 120 km (30 mins to 45 mins)

This is because more time on the schedule has been freed up by the demise of F1 Sunday qualifying

Very good news, I reckon

Indeed, more time for Ryan to work his way up from the back

Nah, he'll bounce back this weekened, no doubt about that

Could be more changes for GP2 Race 2?
For example, adding a pit-stop on the race, or changing points system, though the race is now longer.

Points system will remain as it is, and no changes to the pit stop rules either.

Excellent news for GP2, the series has never really had quite enough track time IMO. Sure not to the same degree that F3000 suffered from a lack of track time but all the same this is better than the deal GP2 had previously.

Good news, I'm not in favour of the gimmicky reverse top 8, so at least this gives the top drivers in race 1 more of a chance to battle back to the front in race 2.

good news. gives more time for overtaking and sprint racing has to have overtaking.

still not sure about the points though. 2 points for fastest laps and pole should be only 1.....the pole sitter at monaco was less than a tenth faster than the 2 behind yet he gets 2 points....and another 2 for fastest lap, plus retirements galore gave him 5th and he is walking home with almost as much points as the winner.....somehow thats not right. im a kova fan and all drivers play by the same rules but to get so much points for 5th is a little too much in my opinion.

Agreed - imagine a driver ends up in 2nd place from pole, and sets the fastest lap on the way - they walk away with 2 more points than the race winner!

Champ Car only offers 1 point for pole or FL, and there a win is worth 31 pts. World Series by Nissan also offers 1 point for each, with a win worth 15 points... GP2 really is out on a limb with their points system.
