Wimbledon 29/5/05
Well its the last meeting on the short oval before the summer break.
With 6-a-side rookie bangers, ramp rollover and inline chained pairs its sure to be a good meeting and I can't wait! Anyone else gonna be there?! |

Fantastic meeting.
50 odd bangers on the track at the same time...it was crazy and absolutely brilliant!# Can't wait for the summer break to be over! |

50 cars for the Death on figure of 8; shale track; drivers such as Pete Steer; Pete Miles; Crispi Collins; Terry Betts; Teams such as Bexley Suicide Squad, Hired Killers, Goodies. All good family fun entertainment. 7pm every Friday night. Now a Waitrose Superstore I believe, someone will put me right..

Sainsbury's actually, but the dog track is still there. Remember the "Dirty half dozen", when they were banned they became the "Uncivilised Six". The Count of Cudham (Dave Sanderson) and of course the Coventry brothers, Ron and Dave, both of whom help organise the Lydden festival of speed in September (on the 10th this year). Should have more details on this event soon, which is why I went to Arena on Sunday to invite more formulas to come along. Looking forward to Wimbledon in August when the mighty Formula One stockcars return for their final world qualifying attempt. Hope the fence is strong enough!!!

I used to hot rod race at Bovingdon in Hertfordshire and one meeting we had a guy who had a breakers yard who took in the old fibreglass cripple cars from the council. Anyhow unbeknown to the authourities and with the assistance of Betty Hill (Grahame's widow) who was campaigning against these aweful contraptions argueing they were both dangerous and dearer than an adabted Mini, this guy organised a Detruction Derby with these things. What a blast you never see anything so funny (or dangerous) some guys had spent hours modifing them with big wheels and stacker exhausts and in minutes have the field were driving aroung on a bodyless flimsy steel chassis.
After the race Betty and a very junior Damon Hill gave out the prizes and it went off really well making a lot of the papers. The council somewhat understandable were not amused and withdrew the contract from the breakers immediately and there was even threat of a civil action but it was worth it as not long afterwards Betty won her campaign and the things were sent to the bad ideas cupboard of history. |
