New ACO class...
As discussed in other threads - this is what we were working in the run up to Le Mans... A new category to rac in the 'spare' weekend. Perhaps using these cars as reserves for the main race (well I only said perhaps).
The full article will not appear online so this one you have to buy! http://www.sevenoaksmotorclub.com/iB...rN9V15_OFC.jpg |

A mix of LMP 3 and GT3 cars would be good, IMO.

well its on my desk so I'd say mid next week in the EU - should be able to get it from borders and some WHS's in the UK. Tim its on a lot of newstands in the US but this issue won't be on sale there for about a fortnight.
Also worth keeping and eye on the RCE website because the car on the front cover has a short feature online, and the Le Mans report is due up too. However I'm sure via the website you can get a single issue digitally. I may put up the general class rules comparison on here next week. |

I look forward to seeing the comparison, and also to pick up a copy of it here in the USA....
Thanks! |

LMP3 type cars have great potential for teams priced out of (competitive) national GT racing.
BritSports looks to have a bright future, and if they can add a few older LMP2/SR2's to the mix pretty spectacular. |

any ideas on what kinda engines would be in the LMP3/GT3 cars? I think they could be a great class for Toyota and Honda esp to test midsized hybrid technology and show to the world, esp critical Americans, that hybrids can be fast and durable

This kind of sportscar racing is certainly alive and well, and picking up momentum, as series like VdeV, Britsports and the Sports Car Challenge show.
I'd say 2.5l to 2.7l would be a good engine size limit for such a class. |

I suppose the GT3/LMP3 format could work for a feeder series.

You did time - just after we did!
Here are the weights LMP1 - 900kg LMP2 - 750kg LMP3 - 550kg |

Less weight means even less reliablity (compared to LMP2).

not really a logical argument that. Less weight means smaller simpler cars - more reliability. When was the last time you saw a radical SR4 break?

Judge P2 in 2006 when they have had a little development time.

P2 unreliability is a bit of a mystery, the best thoery I have heard on the subject it the calibre of team and driver it attracts - they are harsher on the car - understand less about things like pitch control and run kerbs harder and are generally unsympathetic.
Reliability and weight thoery simply is not logical. |

The LMP2s are already becoming more reliable this season, it now takes a trouble-free race to win in both the ALMS and LMES.

Indeed the LMP 2 class has been much more competitve this year IMO. A example of this would be the excellent 4th overall for Paul Belmondo racing's Courage C65 beating both the works LMP 1 courage and Creation DBA and works Zytek. The LMP 2 class had potential to be a disaster, fortunately however the opposite has happened IMO and the class is really beginning to shine.

Anyway LMP3's are on the whole rather reliable but it must be noted that they are designed for twin 60 - 90 minute races not 24 hours.

Yes if the class did run at le mans it would be a support race rather than in the actual 24, isn't that right?!
