Hayden on pole again

So Nicky Hayden set in a great lap to get pole at Sachsenring.

Checa - I heard it was a terror crash coming down the hill. He got back up and got on his spare bike, what a trooper.

it sems that laguna seca was the door opening for him, a good showing and now he knows how to hang out the minerals when he needs to, after Rossi is a man like him and both are fallible- even if Valentino is less often so, on a honda, yamaha, jawa whatever...

Interesting observation from the guys on Eurosport over the weekend.
Reason why Nicky has been good at Laguna and Sachsenring! They are counter clockwise which helps him from his dirt treack days, he says he much prefers going round left handers over right handers, how bizarre but really quite understandable when you think about it!

Think Gary and his enginner just worked on a setup that led to Garys style working. Any theorist will tell you that riding that way is never gonna be the quickest.
If you get the Faster DVD you will get the full details about all this and it is fascinating. Basically the Michelin guys made the 16.5 inch tyre in a few compounds for ALL the teams to test. They didnt like it apart from Garry who tried a very sft compound rear. He set it up to spin al the time and he and Michelin found that spining the tyre really hard actually didnt heat the carcass as much as it gripping. So the surface was very hot but the inner tyre was cooler than a Roberts or Criville tyre.
Garry took this setup and ran with it and coz of the results he got, the tehr teams wanted to try the 16.5. They did and the liks of Vale, Max et al said "the compund is too soft, we want harder!" So they did that and Garry was laeft in the lurch as clearly Michelin were goona go with Max and Vale, their main teams, and won races. Garry was left in the lurch and couldnt use that compund anymore.
Hence why they switched to Dunnys.

my friend who has a GSR 750 has this DVD and once lent it to me. I remember at the time of McCoy driving like this, trying how to figure out how he wasn't finishing races on rims...
