Buying/Fitting a Quick Release Boss

Alrite lads.
Not sure if this is the right place to post this...

Basically.. It takes me a while to get out my car as Im quite short and the seat is pretty close to the steering wheel, making it awkward. So I thought it would be a good idea to purchase a quick release mechanism for the steering wheel. Only thing is Im not sure which would be best, and then how to fit it. Is it a reasonably simple job or not?

The car is a Peugeot 205 GTi (and we are working on a tight budget. ) Also I was lookingto buy an OMP wheel.

Thanks for any help

I fitted a quick release in my car for similar reasons (actually my legs are too long). All the ones I looked at need the splined slug welding to the top of the existing steering column. This has to be done square and to a high standard, so get a professional to do it if you don't have the right gear/skill. Fitting the head part to the steering wheel is a simple matter of using the right adaptor, or just drilling off to suite if you have a pillar drill and can use a scribe.

Oh, I also found that the quality of materials and fit vary a lot. You really do get what you pay for and I'd advise if poss you look at a few before buying. A friend bought a cheap one unseen and it was so poorly made he just sent it straight back. I bought the best one I could afford on the basis of not skimping on safety (don't want it coming loose or sticking in an emergency). Anyway, I chose a RaceTech six bolt and have had no complaints for the one season I've used it. Hope this helps

Hi, we have a Snap Off Systems quick release boss on our Integrale, very good, not welded on. Also means you can park in the street and remove the wheel.
