A new name for 2006 - "Le Mans Series"

Stephane Ratel tells Ten-Tenths Radio tonight that the 2006 series will be called the "Le Mans Series".

This is so people will use the words "Le Mans" rather than a meaningless set of initials "LMES" as they have done up till now.

A small tweak, but sensible.

Yes, I'm sure the old acronym has really hindered their previous marketing efforts.

That's how it's named on the ACO site

Loads of people already said L-M-S during this years raceweekends.

It does kind of make sense to drop the endurance part...if Le mans does not stand for endurance what does?

I've never understood the "Endurance" tag, other than to say that the ALMS isn't (for the most part) real endurance - 2:45 vs 1000km.

So, we have the LMS, the ALMS and the JLMS... I presume the ELMS is still owned by a third party? Interesting though... how long before a WLMS?
