Any detail about this Spice racer?
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27.../KonamiWEC.jpg
I believe this is a Spice 86c but could anyone confirm that? Also did this car actually raced? If so when and where? Any help would be grateful!! |

Definitely looks like an SE86 or SE87C- the racing number 70 suggests it could be the works car from 1986, but does anyone know if they ever ran with Konami backing?- it certainly isn't the team's regular 1986 colourscheme...

the car has on the windscreen band the GM logo, so it could be the works vehicle from 1986, perhaps the Japanese WEC round...in 1986 Spice Engineering produced the Fiero GTP for General Motors, to be used in IMSA Camel Light, and had permission to use the same chassis (and body) for the C2 machine, probably the GM logo was part of the deal....

The Spice Pontiacs won Laguna Seca, Charlotte, and the Glen in 1986, so one would have to say it was a developed package. I heard HP numbers of 270+ (not shabby for a 2.7L I-4 pushrod iron dinosaur), but would that have cut the mustard in C2 back then?

In Group C configuration, these early Spices (Fiero) ran with DFL Cossie power. Power ran between 500-550 bhp. At 750 kgs these cars were very quick. The most powerful version (of the Spice Fiero) came in the form of Hart turbo engines--although they had a tendency to grenade themselves. I think that car holds the Le Mans lap record for C2.
The works car (in Listerine/Canon livery) has been raced succcessfully in historic Group C and looks just like the picture. A Hart-engined car (the Le Mans lap record holder) is in the hands of the owner of Lola cars I believe. Later versions of the car(C2 and C1) ran with DFZ and DFR power--producing close on 600bhp. From 1986 onwards, these cars were the class in C2. |

That looks like Nigel James' car. Really is a lovely thing, I have raced against it for a few years now in Historic Group-C and can tell you that it flies. I think it is chassis 001?

It certainly looks like an SE86, which as already mentioned was also called the Fiero in the US for marketing purposes. I think they were Fiero's when they had a Pontiac 4 cylinder motor in the back. There were 2 of these and 2 SE86's.
I don't recognise the livery but it looks too realistic to be a mock up just for the game. |
