Trulli and Pantano also had their own brands... it seems to be very common in Italy, but it is more marketing (licencising) than anything else. Alonso used to race for IAME (engine) and Rakama (Chassis), AFAIK he had know links with Tony Kart in the past.

if they (tony + FA) put a professional karting driver (eg. Davide Fore) the thing will be really serious. let's wait and see.

that will be good but Trulli has gone to Swiss Hutless now i think?? and tony kart has got redspeed and Kosmic so i dont think they will need anymore. Redspeed i think is nigel mansell (Ive Heard) but they dont normally go for engines aswell(also alonso kart name would sound a bit funny)

From a quick google search:

Quote:
FA ALONSO KART racing kart chassis. Developed and manufactured jointly by World Champion driver Fernando Alonso and World Champion manufacturer Tony Kart s.r.l.. A new championship conquering name.

Michael Schumacher
Jarno Trulli
Tonio Liuzzi
Giorgio Pantano
Jos Verstappen
Ryan Briscoe
Kimi Raikkonen
Fernando Alonso
Rubens Barrichello
Tony Kanaan
Nico Rosberg
Mika Salo

You know others?

Alonso had zero afilliation with Tony kart in his karting days. So its interesting he should do a deal with them. His old mentor who he was very close to, Mike Wilson, may not have the capacity to manufacture or manage the business as Tony Kart might.

Whilst it is a bit of a 'badge job' as you say, the chassis design is different and Trulli used to show up at the races to oversee things. I hope Alonso does too. Its great that these guys keep in touch with their roots. They all raced karts a lot longer than single seaters after all!

I can remember Trulli in Belgium in 1999 launching his Trulli Kart (the Orange Tony Kart at that time) with Pantano driving really great for him. Alonso was there, racing for Mike Wilson and Raikkonen was there as well, racing for Gillard Karts.

One of his former proteges, AJ Almendinginger is racing in Champ Car now.

Alex Zanardi also lends his name to a Kart. How involved he is, I don't kow.

Ron Fellows also helped create a race series here in Canada. It has been quite a success.

Yeah, I remember that! Pantano just moved from Kosmic the year before. I think Davidson was at the same race too, his last season in Karts.

Zanardi builds his kart in association with CRG. Pantano is associated with Intrepid. Tracy kart is build by Gillard, because in the past his engines used to be tuned by Peter de Bruijn, who manages Gillard official racing operation and is the current world champion with brit Oli Oakes.

Schumacher is very close to Tony Kart (much more than Alonso, indeed), but I've never heard about a kart on his own name.

Wrong. It is CRG.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CRG

Interesting news on the new Alonso kart. We'll see how it goes and how involved Fernando is with the project.

Zanardi is a "blue" CRG, lighter than the original and with a different brake system. His official team is managed by Dino Chiesa, who used to be Hamilton and Rosberg's team-manager while in karting.

Alonso's kart looks really ugly to me... maybe the color scheme was made in a rush, 'cause usually Tony takes good care of this kind of stuff.

Trulli is confirmed with Swiss Hutless, as someone stated before.

Verstappen has not a chassis under his name, but he used to tune 100cc engines and actually Giedo Van der Garde won the world championship with a Jos' engine in 2002.
