Transponders (Yellow/Red)
Hi not sure if this is the right place but i have a tranx 160 transponder its yellow and just wondering if this is ok to use on a race car as all the ones seem to be red and are 260 would be greatfull for any help

The yellow 160s are kart transponders.
It may still do the trick. |

MST will probably tell you it's not up to the job. I suppose you could give it a go though. How many digits are on the transponder number? I know the red ones have 7 digits. If yours is different, then you'll have problems I suspect.

Hi col. some of the F.vee guys in mondello are using the yellow ones with no problems. I only found this out after spending a fortune on a new red one!

Correct! Mondello had loads of trouble with the yellow ones and now no longer use them. They may work on single seaters but are very much hit and miss on a saloon. According to Mondello, 160's work up to 160 kmh and 260 to 260kmh, the signal is also a lot stronger on the 260.................Mind you Col, if you give the bro a dicky transponder and he gets no qualifying time, we all get the opportunity to slag him in the paddock........
And he can do one of his Anglesey drives from the back!!! |

It may well be that he drives better when he starts on the back of the grid i will tell him to get a red 1 and then that way he wont be in my ear if the yellow 1 fail to give him a grid position

'a bit off-topic' BUT
I raced at Silverstone last weekend (MGCC) in a car with no transponder and we received both qualifying and race times as normal, and no warning note either ! can somebody please explain that ? |

You were lucky for not having a warning note or visit although they seem to time you regardless.

I seem to recall that someone (2?) got excluded last weekend because they did not have (it did not work?) a transponder.

Yes it's in MN this week. Chap was excluded at first but reinstated. He won as well IIRC. There was a warning after practice that his laps would be timed but it didn't say they wouldn't be counted, so he got his win back Consistency, consistency...... |
