Champ Car Sues Montreal Promoter
Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but anyway, SpeedTV.com reports:

Shame it had to come to legal action, but nevertheless I hope Champ Car wins. |

Legault is a scumbag. I'm glad champcar is suing him.
The latest this weekend of going around photographing volunteers so they could be banned from the F1 and cab events is low. |

Apparently it is for events that transpired during the 2005 race. Well played by CC to announce the law suit after the 2006 race was complete.
I'm glad they are suing Legault. |

What's this about taking pictures of volunteers for blacklisting? Hmmmph. Shades of F1 in 1989. Doesn't he get it? There are only so many volunteers, and the locals can't carry a large pro event by themselves. They'd like to but there aren't enough of 'em, just like everywhere else.
Hmmm, come to think of it, 1989 was Legault too. What a load of hooey. keke (showing her age) |

I've never liked Legeault but I must say he has powerful friends and allies.

I take it by volunteers you mean the marshals and other helpful folk that make the racing world go round? If so, what does he have to gain from blacklisting them?

Found a French article mentioning this on another forum - http://www2.canoe.com/sports/nouvell...29-081911.html
Still confused as to what Legault possibly hopes to achieve by banning VOLUNTEERS, who are surely impartial and frankly irrelevant in any Champ Car-NASCAR-Legault machinations. I hope this piece of dog dirt gets everything he deserves. |

Not exactly the biggest ChampCar follower, can someone explain exactly what happened with these "disappearing grandstands"?

Essentially legault wanted champcar out of there, so he was completely hostile to champcar. You can look up Eric Gagnon's blog about different shanagans that went on at the 2005 event.

Could we have a link to something that actually verifies that picture taking was going on and for what purpose?

The link Jondownunder posted mentions this.
Ce n'était pas fort d'aller prendre des photos des bénévoles - oui, ces personnes qui offrent leur temps sans compter - pour leur apprendre qu'ils seront persona non grata pour les prochains Grands Prix de formule 1. My rough translation is Its not enough to take photos of the volunteers - those who offer uncountable time - to let them know they will be Persona Non Grata at the next F1 Grand Prix |

I can appreciate that perhaps it does, icemachine. My inability to read French makes it a bit of a problem (for me) to suss what is going on.
Is there any mention in the article as to why he/anyone is taking pictures of the volunteers? |

I have a question about the legal proceedings. If the event was in Montreal, then why is Champ Car filing a lawsuit in the US?

Champ Car is based in Indianapolis, so thats part of the reason. I also think from a monetary standpoint they may be able to get a larger penalty against Legault then if they had filed in Canada. It may also however be more difficult for them to collect in the end.

The jurisdiction for any dispute resolution would be specified in the contracts. Otherwise it default to the location of goods / services rendered, which would be Quebec.

JohnSSC, the only thing implied by the article's author is that it is in order to prevent them from working at future F1 races. He also seems to be saying that this may be because of his chuminess with Tony George, both being promotors of F1 racing.

FWIW, I had some marshalls ask about this at Mosport, and while they had heard the rumour, those who were at Montreal the week before had not seen anyone photographing marshalls.
