Defending champion Stewart misses the Chase

Wow. Who could have predicted this before the season began or even a few hours ago??? Richmond is one of his best tracks.

Yeah they never could get that backup car in shape and they paid the price because of it.

What happened to Tony?

Tony Stewart had the title and a strong team at the beginning of the year. What happened? His cars seemed decent enough and the team seemed together. Any input will be appreciated.

The engine failure at Fontana and the wreck at New Hampshire are just two of the reasons he missed the Chase. That, as well as wrecking his primary car during Friday practice at Richmond - they simply could not get to grips with the handle on the backup car, which cost them dearly.

Also, one has to remember that unlike a lot of other racing championships, NASCAR NEXTEL Cup sees 10-15 teams at, or near, the top, which means even the best drivers can miss out sometimes - Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. missed the Chase last year, for example.

Richmond was an impound race and when he wrecked his primary it really hurt him. They could not practice and work on the car to improve its perform. that said, he had 25 other races to separate himself from the other drivers and did not perform like last year. It will be interesting to see how he races in the final 10. Kenseth look out.

Seven, yes 7, drivers that made the chase last year are not in it this year.

Name the 7 and no fair cheating by looking them up.

Ahh yes. I forgot about Carl Edward's charge last year. And I just plain don't care about Busch.

Yep, those are the 7 drivers that were in the Chase last and are absent this year. That also means that there are 7 in the Chase this year that weren't in it last year.

Lets confuse it. So, the 7 new ones this year plus the 7 missing ones plus the 3 that were in it both years means that there have been 17 different drivers in the Chase in a 2 year span.
