James Weaver's Last Hurrah
According to a brief piece on DSC James has announced his retirement after the Laguna race. Despite his age, I must profess I am a bit shocked. He certainly hasn't shown any signs of slowing down, far from it. He's consistantly the fastest driver in the Dyson lineup (though Guy has given him a run at times this year) and brilliant at development and setup. Just like James to depart with no fanfare.
The sport has lost a true gentleman, whose combination of talent, wit, magnetic personality and pure class is almost unrivaled in motorsport. James, the ALMS paddock will miss pink t-shirts, shoes mismatched with socks, and worn-out orange driving gloves. Farewell! |

Indeed this is a great loss to the series and for Dyson Racing. Weaver is the type of person that this series needs. The first time I ever saw Weaver in person was at an April 03 test at Road Atlanta. After he was done driving for the day he went around and shook everyone's hand on the team and said thanks to them all. That really left a big impression on me that day and make me an even better fan of Dyson Racing and Weaver.

I first met James in 1978 when he was racing for Scorpion Racing in Formula Ford in the UK. A super guy with many a funny tale.
When he was driving the BMW in the British Touring Car Championship in the mid-80s, lap after lap he would come through Woodcote corner in a glorioius powerslide, his rear wheel off the road touching the grass and throwing up the dust. After a while more grass was worn away and the 'hole' got deeper every lap. For years this was known as 'Weaver's Trench' where cars went wide onto it. A hugely entertaining driver. |

In many ways sad to see this news, marking in many ways the passing of an era. That said, he's undeniably going out while still on top of his game. He's had a fantastic career and I for one am grateful for all the memories.
Well worth lifting a glass to a great man's long and committed career. |

I wonder if he'll work for Dyson, or set up his own team!

Will miss you James. No more friendly waves as you leave the pit lane at Road Atlanta, no more "what you again" when you stop at my post at circuits round the world. No more chats about how you are doing.
Have a great retirement |

Well, what to say. Top bloke, great driver, I'll miss his style and speed. Have a very happy retirement, James, you've earned it.

All I can do is agree with every good word that has already been said about James in this thread. An absolutely top bloke, retiring at probably the right time and with typical style and class.
