1000cc
A terrific, embryonic movement in Australia is the revival of 1000cc racing....might be held under the umbrella of the MRA (http://www.users.tsn.cc/shadowdragons/mra/) ....
Terrific "development" or re-inventing of an old wheel In any event, and if it gets off the ground, will be great to see near bog standard 1000cc Minis out there having fun |

have you looked on ebay xr2's, 205 gti's, MG Maestro's all going for 500-1500 what more do you need as most of these cars have had thousands spent on them. Most only need a new harness and fire system and your away. Yes you will always have trophy hunters buying production class BTCC / britcar's to race at club level but thats life! There is nothing quite like getting back to the paddock and see how many thousands of pounds worth you have beaten in your bargain racer. |

i would love there to be a cheap form of motorsport for normal people, not just for people who have massive bank accounts.
if i could make a championship it would go as follows: small cars 1.0-1.2 4 cylinder engines. cars like peugeot 106, VW polo's, citroen saxo's etc, etc. 5-7 races each season. cheap entry fee's (no more than £300 for each event). road spec tyre's. 6 point roll cage. race seat. 6 point harness. battery isolator. open to people of any age. i would love to race one day but due to the huge costs presented i probably wont ever race. |

dont think like that!! get old of something nice, reasonably quick and reliable, something cheap and cheerfull to cart it about with and go4it! theres lots of people out there who tell you that it costs vast sums of money to have a go.if you are prepared to get yer hands mucky and not listen to folks who dont have a clue your in with a chance.iv had a couple of excellent seasons with a 216gti,got a shelf full of trophys and havnt broke the bank. anyone want one for next year???????? |

Also I know where there are some reasonably priced Toyota Yarris's, or Bill Richards could bolt together a cheap tin top Mini for you! You would get two races at Lydden for as little as £135

Surely this has been done before with the Maestros or 2CV's has'nt it? racing will never be cheap no matter how cheap the car is there is all the safety equipment, overals, helmet, I have just totted up it is going to cost me £300 just for my licence, medical and to renew memberships to the clubs I need to belong to and no matter how cheap the car the entry fee is not going to change.

Unless - that included two tyres and race fuel..... Like Mr Birley said.... Lydden ... £135. Now that's a cheap entry fee for 2006/7 What's more, a good crowd, and more importantly, a good end of season bash!! |

Get along to a clubby, talk to drivers in, for example, 750MC Stock Hatch, Ford XR, etc. You'll find that many of them are, to use your words, not 'people who have massive bank accounts'. |

Take all the money out of your bank account in fivers. Light a fire & slowly tear up the fivers & throw them onto the fire. If you can do that without bursting into tears, you can afford it! |

I agree with Al, in that some things are fixed price (licence), but medicals you can get cheaper by shopping around. Advent motorsport offer a decent discount. Parts you can get in "sales" or when there are special offers on.

I always believed I'd start racing "when I could afford it" - when I got to 40 I realised that would never happen and just got out there and did it
Still can't afford it |

Just to correct you on one point, there was no such thing as BTCC Prod Class it was an extention of ther Saloon 2000 and then National Saloons that was a third of the Power Tour headline (F3 and GT's the balance)which was run by the BRDC. The year before we got amalgamated into BTCC circus we were able to compete in both BTCC and our own series, and got paid for it !!!!! we in fact had bigger crowds than BTCC and the National Saloons was being primed to be the main feeder for BTCC. Sadly due to very poor BTCC entries BHL decided with TOCA not to give the Power Tour dates on BHL circuits unless BRDC gave them the Super Prods to bolster their grids - great for a year but of course within a year more Tourers joined in and the Pesky super Prods which at some circuits embarrased the main runners were just dropped never to appear again. I think a golden opportunity lost to have an alternative to one make racing as a feeder to BTCC. In the DTRC there are 4 so called Super Prods but apart from 1, 2 were built for Britcar and mine I have for 5-6 years. To buy one just to do even the DTRC I think would be a tad extravigant as it would be a lot cheaper to build from scratch if you have time/knowledge etc. Its all about power to weight and good balance - you dont have to have the most powerful car but if you can use all you got and the car is light and handles well then you should be competitive ! My car weighs in at 1000kgs without me ! any car weighing 800kgs with 190 bhp should beat me everytime ! It also helps if you can drive ? |
