Classic 80's Australian racing.

Looks quite entertaining!

Anyone care to tell me what the racing series with all the little Nissan hatchbacks are?

Wrighty05 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
From memory there was a one make Nissan Pulsar series with about a dozen drivers in it.

As you can see there were a few major stacks. I think Nissan stopped in the end because there were too many trashed cars!

Great link by the way.

Yep the ET pulsar Series.

You'll also notice Mark Skaife driving a Red Ford Laser in the one-make Laser Series in there too!

Would that happen to be car number 3 in the Laser series?

Also, since all the Nissan's are painted the same, was it kind of like an IROC series? Where you had the pro drivers get in those cars to put on a race before the main event?

Dug through some of my archives and found out the names of the dozen drivers that were in the series:

Jim Richards, Dick Johnson, Colin Bond, George Fury, Alan Grice, John Bowe, Glenn Seton, Steve Masterton, Peter McKay, Geoff Portman, Garry Rogers and Garry Scott.

Points went like this

Richards = 293
Fury = 286
Grice = 286
Johnson = 281
Bond = 279
Bowe = 276
Scott = 253
McKay = 220
Portman = 207
Rogers = 173
Masterton = 143
Seton = 109

It should be noted that Steve Masterton and Glenn Seton had to sit out the last round of that series at Calder, because of the carnage, and the fact that they were the two bottom-placed drivers on the table, who could be sacrificed, without upsetting the applecart.

There was some very spectacular accidents in those racing series that were predominantly based at Amaroo. There was the Laser series, Pulsar ET series and the Alfa series. I think it was Alan Grice that was involved in a court case regarding the Alfa series that dragged on for years afterwards.

My first post on 10 tenths.......Ahhhh, my virginity is broken...I have recently been watching old Bathursts. 1979 thru to 1984. Gotta love watching the old Group C growling up the mountain. Quite an eye opener though when it comes to the advancement in track safety. These guys were rounding up recovery vehicles at full pace while a couple of guys sat on the back of the flat bed smoking while waving white flags......Must have been an adrenaline rush for both the drivers and the guys on the back of the truck

It certainly was.

If one happened to eaves drop on a conversation in the pits at a round of this series, would one had over heard something like, "Anti-roll characteristrics? What anti-roll characteristics?"
