I can hardly wait. I hope it is not too safe and we can get an historic car event up there sooner rather than later. I have a car that would be just so much fun on that track......

Using free labour it probally will. Isnt it a commercial operation ????

From the same story, second column.

"Then I'll be looking for VOLUNTEERS to come and slash the grass, paint the Armco and generally spruce the place up a bit."

and 5th column

"entry prices will be up about 30% over Queensland Raceway"

Who care if entry prices were 50% up. QR is a horrid thing, about as interesting as white bread. Lakeside is a real race track and it is worth preserving. Entry prices are a tiny piece of the cost of running a car/bike. And the place is closer to everything except Ipswich so for most locals will be cheaper to get to.

I for one will be out there volunteering and I know of a few others who would relish sprucing the track up so we can have it operational ASAP.

I shall advise all and sundry if a weekend work party happens and when.

Anyone else interested ?

Lets not have a storm in a Tetley tea cup scoupe Tetley spoke similar words in the interview....he was searching for a word..boutique, less people likely to turn up (3000 mentioned) so higher prices!! Everyone has to make a profit...but lets be realistic John...you can't compare or expect the profit margin from a bunch of enthusiast to be the same as the huge commercial success of the V8 Supercars.

We all know how smart people trade on the enthusiast....motor racing in this country probably would not exist if the volunteer army and the association/club and Mum and Dad helpers had to be paid....just wondering if any govt money has been sought for the big ticket items like track resurfacing....a grant to preserve the heritage of the place should not be too far of left field

If it gets up that will be a wonderful thing.

There are some rather strict conditions. The meetings will be shorter, about 9am to 4pm I think, maybe shorter. There will be a very strict 90dB noise limit. It's a limit some production cars would struggle to meet. There will be no national level racing. There is also at least one court case underway.

But even then, the majority of the Queensland community want it to happen. I know I'll be there for the re-opening.

Great to hear its all happening! Pity there won't be any national events. Does QR attract any more than 6,000 for CAMS/AMRS rounds anyway?

That is probably excessive-- The Cams series would not have achieved that in paying spectators at every circuit in total-- at most rounds if the spectators met and shook hands with each other they would have met everybody!!

Who was it who compared the 5 litre & 2 LItre Touring Car series by say "At a V8 meeting the spectators know all the drivers name while at a 2 Litre meeting the Drivers know all the spectators". Might be true but the 2 Litre meetings were more fun to work at.

I'm not having a go at the CAMS/AMRS - I attend every round at Oran Park. I just thought that if Lakeside is going to hold events that attract no more than 6,000 then theres no reason CAMS/AMRS shouldn't be going there

On a trip to QLD a few years back I took my overalls and spent a day working at turn 3.

A fun place. I'd like to see it up and running again.

I spent a few hours walking around the track yesterday and it did not seem so delapidated as I had expected. The track surface requires work in some places however it looked fine. Vandalism has been kept to a minimum, thankfully,.. however plenty of repairs are needed to the buildings some of which look as if they require demolishing. All-told with a bit of rabbit trappin, paint, 'gardening', and TLC the track seems fine.
Eerie walking around with no noise whatsoever.....you can still feel the tracks aura..... though that may be my setimentality showing...
Lets hope by mid year Lakeside will be fully operational catering to all motoring enthusiasts forever more.....

There is talk of around four new circuits in South East Queensland, not including Townsville Street, and none of them would have any bearing on Lakeside. What does have a bearing is whether Queensland Raceway and Pine Rivers Shire Council can come to an agreement.
