Classic cars at Philip Island races
It's just over a month ago, but here are some photos of the more interesting classic cars in the carpark at the Philip Island historic races. There were around 20 club displays with everything from the Vintage Sports Car Club to modern HSVs. The complete gallery is located here: LINK
A very nice AC Ace (Bristol engine), unfortunately a little dusty but like everywhere at the moment the Island is in drought and has actually had to truck in drinking water as they were going to run out. A couple of Alfas, of course the GTC is very rare although out of just under 1000 made (not sure how many RHD) there are at least 2 that are regularly seen at local shows. Alvis roadster with a polished alloy body – clearly a lot of work had gone into this immaculate car Some more of the VSSC cars which included a pair of Lagondas, a big 6 litre Bentley, Singer, Alvises, Morris and Vauxhalls The Austin 7 club showing the variety of form their cars can take A nice Lagonda sports The boot of a “big tank” Chrysler Valiant Charger E38 does not leave much room for luggage (Bathurst homologated spec – that is a 35 gallon tank) Last edited by johnh875; 11 Apr 2007 at 06:50. |

Local sportscar make Bolwell – these are a Mk7 and Nagari coupe and convertible. The Mk7 has a 3.3L 6cyl Holden engine while the Nagari has a 5L/302 Ford V8 (some had 5.8L versions) which was a lot of power in a light sportscar
One of the few current-day sportscars made in Australia, this is an Elfin MS8 Streamliner. It features an all-alloy 5.7L Chev engine. A nice contrast of old and new Morgans I can’t resist including the Lamborghini Miura |

Alliteration time… A line-up of Lotuses
A pair of Peugeot convertibles (ultra rare in Australia) A singular vintage Sunbeam A few fast Fords – Cortina GT500 on the left, Lotus Cortina and Escort RS2000 Mk1. The GT500 is an Australian homologation special for the Bathurst 500 mile race of 1965, special features include a worked engine, Lotus Cortina gearbox, second fuel tank with twin fuel fillers and alloy brake scoops which are just visible below the bumper in this photo. |
