Carbon steering wheel for champcar
Just a heads up to all the technology lovers out there. Keep an I out for some very impressive carbon steering wheels about to be used by Will Power. These wheels are made in Australia and will look great on the new Panoz. Hopefully he can get everyone to use these wheels, as I have seen the current setup and they are pretty ugly. The wheel has had a fairly extensive R&D run and is designed by aeronautical composite engineers. For anyone who doesnt know, the Panoz now has a deformable structure in the steering column which will collapse well before the breaking point of the wheel. The wheel however has also been design to stay together if it was to fracture and bend like an alloy wheel. It might still have a chance a shard being exposed but the chances of this are very minimal. Its composite is all prepreg carbon fibre and some other special bits, which of course due to IP I cannot reveal. try this link here there are just some photos of the wheel without the dash, moulded grips or front cover but you get the idea. Also the way this wheel works it will encompass all of the wiring INSIDE the wheel. This is wehat I meant by the old setup being a bit ugly with all the wires on the outside of the wheel. The only visible wires will be one each side on the back for the paddle shifters. http://my.imageshack.us/v_images.php

ive just uploaded another photo, this one is with the front cover and the dash mounted, so you can get a better idea of what it will look like. However grips and buttons are not fitted yet as these need to be made to suit each individual driver, something the teams will do. Hopefully if all goes well Simon will be the first person to test this wheel at his upcoming test. Keep a look out! I also think that you need to registar at that pic hosting site to view them, if anyone is having dramas let me know, and everyone let me know what you think. Would love some feedback, cheers!

Hey everyone. Well the wheel has been tested succesfully by Will Power at Mount Tremblant and raised much interest with many people at the track. Already, Justin Wilson has ordered one which has been made and sent, and Paul Tracy has also ordered a couple. Hopefully both drivers will be using these at Portland, but if not then very soon! Looking forward to fitting out the whole field with these wheels!
