The race is currently suspended due to heavy fog around the track.

Is that suprising, considering it it the Nurburgring! Its very odd, the atmosphere when you get there! A sense of forboding(sp) around there! |

They seem very cautious at the Nurburgring 24hrs, it suprised me when it was postponed earlier due to the wet.
We had a problem at Knockhill when the fog came down and they couldn't see the next marshals post so they cancelled the entire meeting when we were on our green flag lap. I'd be happy to run whatever the weather, could be me just being brought up racing at Knockhill? They do still seem to be circling out there though! |

It was fantastic coverage! Well done again Graham, John and Jim, and thanks also to Aston Martin who made it all possible! It lightened my heart even though I had a report to finish!

Are you implying that some of the drivers are prima donnas? Most of the sportscars guy I've met are really down to earth. Apart from one, I'd rather not name n shame him in public! |

I have just got back from working as a mechanic there.
The race was delayed as the rain caused a mudslide on the Nordschleife, the rain was absolutely insane and it caught 99% of the grid was on slicks so we had to change both our cars on the grid onto wets. The stoppage for fog did not extend the race, it finished at around 5pm - both our cars had to retire so I had sort of lost interest by that point. |

rcarr there is also a large speed differential between the classes of cars which makes fog more dangerous.

Correct - imagine this, A citreon AX GT which could do no more than 115mph and a Viper which is knocking for 180mph trying to share the same bit of circuit - you start understanding why it is such an acheivement just to finish this race, this was the first time in 6 years that we did not take the chequered flag, it's immensely disappointing.

I was marshalling the 0200hrs - 0600hrs grave yard shift. Very odd on my first 24hr race to red flag it in the dark. It has only ever been stopped once before. But it was thick fog and i really mean thick fog. Dee (wifey) and I were on shift at the Karussell, we were on the exit, and we couldn't see the centre of the Karussell. for four hours the course cars were coming roung occassionally and we would only notice as they were about 10ft from us and the vanish into the mist. Way Way to dangerous to race, even under safety car conditions. It was a shame as the specator atmosphere obviously changed (i think they stopped drinking and started to get hangovers) and people started to pack up and leave. For me it was a shame as it meant i really marshalled a two stage race one of 12 hours and one of 7 hours 10 minutes. I am so going back next year there is nothing in the world like it. the atmosphere the camping set ups that some of the people have it is truly truly awesome i can't explain it at all.
And on the up side, I am one of the few people in the world to have ever red flagged the Nurburgring 24hr Race in 35 years. |

Zac, the series that I've raced in for the past 6 years is like that. We've had Reggie the Ecurie Ecosse C2 car race with Ford Fiestas and Rover Metros and the occasional Porsche 911 Cup car! |

not sure if this has been covered, why aren't people using 430GT2's? as they seem to be more competitive in the FIA GT / LeMans / ALMS series than the 997 RSR's
