GP2 and LMP2 engines

1. Are there any Mader engines that are rebadged as Mécachrome engines and vice versa?

T2M Motorsport races a Dome S101.5 LMP2 car in the 2007 Le Mans Series and I want to know the origin of their engine.

2. Does http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame...hp&carnum=3228 have it right or wrong?

"Powered by a Mader developed Mecachrome engine, the LMP2 Dome debuted at the second race of the 2007 Le Mans Series."

-----

Five years ago, Mader was repurchased by Mécachrome. It is from now on an entity of the group, a development pole. Switzerland in the beginning, Mader A builds its reputation in F1 when the company equipped the Cosworth engines.

Matthieu Carrier and Christophe Lagrange are two engineers Mader regularly present at with dimensions of the T2M Motorsport. They in particular took part in the development of the GP2. For several years, they have also officiated in Endurance, under the name of Mécachrome: Courage of the Paul Belmondo Racing, Pilbeam, Del Bello, or the first rolling of Courage LC75.

The Mader engine which equips Dome LMP2 has many common parts with the engine of the GP2. Some were obviously rehabilitated with the constraints of the Endurance. Just like the engine which equips the GP2, that present in Endurance follows its own development. But it is not rare to see a transfer of competences between the two disciplines, in the two directions that goes from is.

During the winter, it from now on named Mader received several evolutions compared to Mécachrome which equipped the cars with the PBR in 2006. In particular on the level of reliability. This season, the T2M Motorsport is the only TEAM been driven by this engine. Without support, it posts a power of 540cv.

“After the shakedown of Valencia, this day with Alès remains a large meeting of development” confirm the two men. “That occurs well but if we carried out a late debugging, in conditions of race which more is. We are not even done too much concern for the engine in him. It made a success of several 24 hours tests to the bench, even 30 hours. However, the environment of the bench and the car are obviously different, and there is always work to make on the level engine installation of”.

yup, believe it or not the Renault GP2 engine from Mader -Mechachrome is .....wait for it......a BMW engine, it was designed in the mid to late 90's in conjunction with BMW motorsports (Paul Rolsche) based on the alu-sil road car block, it was designed as a 4.0 IRL motor, as a fully stressed engine for a single-seater IRL car, but for whatever reason (money, marketing etc) the project didnt get the official BMW rubber stamp, so Mader got the engine design for nothing.......Mechachrome bought out Mader, and needed an F3000 type engine......change the badges, a fair bit of re-design work, I think they changed from a cross to a flat plane crank etc......heypresto.......a Renault GP2 engine was born.......I think the LMP2 version is just a de-bored or de-stroked version.......that particular BMW engine is very heavy at 220Kg.......so as far as LMP2 engines go......it will probably make the power, but is probably very heavy compared to a Zytek, Judd, Porsche or Acura LMP2 motor.......hence, they are performing badly at the mo, but they should improve as time go's on, as its a new package

So the current Mader/Mechachrome LMP2 engine is based on the same engine which powered the Ascari LMP900 (and the current Ascari road/race cars?) some years ago? But If I remember well the Ascari engine was based on a production engine of the BMW 5 Series.
