Perkins?

Whispers from the Winton powder room suggest that after testing strongly, Mr Marcus Marshall has been secured to share one of the Jack Daniel's Commodores for Sandown and Bathurst.

This of course begs the question about the other possibilities in the Perkins Motorsport operation.

If Mr "No Limit" Marshall is planning on securing an ownership position of a main series V8Supercar operation, could the signing of Mr Marshall Jr be a sign of a different type of deal being done, to relieve Mr Perkins of the ownership of this outfit?

Presuming any of this actually happened

I don't think Larry would sell. He has just returned to the Supercar board and i feel is nurturing Jack and Shane to be stars of the future. I don't think his job as far as team owner is finished yet.

Please, tell me that's not true!!

If anyone but Larry Perkins ran JDR, I don't think I would support the team...

Marshall can drive LP's cars as much as he wants but his dad can't have the team!

i think Mr Marshall is after a QLD team closer to home.

i hope Larry dosn't sell he is a great icon of the sport and it would be sad to lose the Perkins team from the sport i have always liked LP and would greatly hate to lose him from the sport as a team owner, ditto with DJR and Dick Johnson.

Mr Marshall buy WPS or PMM a team that has no history behind it etc, and leave Perkins and DJR alone, although as Chatters said Marshall Jnr can drive the cars as much as he wants just don't take the teams over.

Well I was at testing on Monday at Winton and doing some photography for JDR but there was no sign of MM. But he may have been testing the cars at some stage during the day. I was at Perkins last week and they said they were going to be trying out some drivers during the test.

Maybe Perkins is looking to buy the PWR-NoLimit L1 Franchise??

Remember, Larry is still on his borrowed L2 one.

Maybe its part of a swap deal.

NLR goes to Larrys L2 as a one car team, and JDR takes over the L1 licence.

It would be a shame, wouldn't it?

As an aside, which team or teams have been around the longest? I would suspect that DJR and Perkins Racing have been active since the Group A days, with DJ perhaps back to Group C. Any other team with such longevity?

Mr Perkins owns an ex-LMS L1 franchise licence slot, purchased from the TEGA titans at the start of this season, along with an L2 franchise licence slot.

LP set up his own team at the end of '85 after briefly teaming with - DJR!

DJR (as we know it) has been around in touring car racing since the '70's, first with Zupps backed XU-1's, (even did a one off with HDT!!) then on to Bryan Byrt sponsored Falcon Coupes. Before all this though he was playing with an MG, FJ & EH Holdens....

HRT/HSV was part picked up when HDT folded, which in turn goes back to the late '60's... But HDT wasn't 'sold', or 'taken over' merely folded as a 'works' team, Brocky took his name & played with Ford's, Lada's etc. TW got the contract with GMH & created HSV, the HDT name is still around & modify their own Commodores & sell older HDT bits.

DJR, as a team though, has definitely been around the longest....

As an aside does anyone know what happened to the last DJR XU1.
I had a bit to do with it when Kerry Cox was running it quite sucessfully. He took the Qld Touring car championship off Dick who was running the XD that year. More consistency than speed, but a good effort.

....
Poor choice of words in the context of this discussion - paid contractor is how I would put it - DJR paid for services rendered.

GTR.......Not that I know any thing about Larry's finances but unless he is not in good shape..........Which I have absolutely no reason to suspect.........Why sell?

With young Jack coming on.........And he can only get better..........It just does not make sense.

I think people are making to much of Marcus strong showing at Winton.......My advice is not to read anything more into it than Marcus did a bloody good job of convincing Larry that he should get the Enduro drive.

What will be more interesting than speculating about Larry's finances........Is who will pair up........Marcus with Scott.......Or Scott with Shane?

All indications would say no... I thought it was interesting in 321Ignition to see the guts of a rollcage design/welds/fabrication of a Perkins VE in their magazine.....

Make you wonder why some of them cost $600k....

good news for Marcus, shame John McIntyre missed out but i supose Marcus has more experience and would be slightly quicker and brings the trailor as an extra bonus.

If you're going to mention this elusive "trailer" that Marcus brings to JDR at least spell it right!!

do you read you pm's chatters, or are you just ignoring my PM's about the 3D livery mate? trailer .

anyway back on topic, i thought it was a great article done on Perkins in 321ignition, great insight into the team and the VE.

For the benefit of those of us who haven't the foggiest what you are talking about Pro Racer, what "trailer" does Marcus Marshall bring ? A box trailer? Caravan?Do you mean a transporter? Last time I looked Perkins had quite a nice big B double...

Or is this code for c..a..s..h..?
