My personal favourite is the Opel Manta 400

The best all round one was the Escort RS1800 though. And the Group B Toyota Celica was good in the African rallies because of it's good top speed.

I'm gonna say the Datsun 1600 (510), of course.

Hm, tough question.
The Gp.A Prodrive M3s were pretty good.
The Stratos and 037 were arguably the most charismatic RWD cars.
Cars like the Merc SLC (complete with automatic transmission) or Gp.B Ferrari 308 were - awesome.
The Escort is probably the most successful in terms of titles won - everybody who's anybody drove one...
But the King of Cool was the Manta

My sentimental favourite is the Salzburg Beetle

(wasn't there a rally BMW M1 somewhere?)

Have to say the Lancia Rallye. Not really keen on the Statos even thouhgh it was a hell of a car. Have to say the Ascona 400 was a real star for winning the title with Rohrl against Lancia and Audi. Be like Mcrae sighing for Hyundai these days and winning the title.
Best till last though and that was the Celica TC Turbo. 400 hp and rear wheel drive. Recently saw some pics of Juha and Waldegaard on the 85 1000 lakes, awesome just plain awesome

imull has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
the RS1800

was a lemon for its engine. The 1600 twin cam was a far better engine than the 1.8.

My favourite has to be the mark 1 1600 twin cam when carrying the uniflow sponsorship. Fast, glorious noise and nice to look at.

There were others though, such as the Manta, 2.4l Firenza (i think it was 2.4, definitely somwthing likethat. My father rallied one and it was a monster...

His favourite with out a doubt though is the Lancia fulvia...
