Ricky Rudd Replacement Driver Announced

Today Robert Yates Racing announced that Travis Kvapil will take over the #88 Ford when Ricky Rudd retires after this season. It was also announced that Robert Yates will hand over control of the team to his son Doug Yates at the end of the season.

As part of the deal Doug Yates will effectively buy the teams from Robert and start a new organization called Yates Racing with extensive support from Roush. I have a suspicion that one of Roush's teams may move over to the new Yates organization in 2009 when the four team limit kicks in.

The deal with Newman-Haas-Lanigan won't be happening as a result of this.

It is also rumored that Roush may start another team that is owned by a private group of investors, but it would use all Roush equipment and tecnical support to the same degree that the current Roush Fenway teams get.
