(my sister who lives in the UK has told me of the "leaves on the line" thing, kind of an odd thing to disrupt rail service, I first thought she was pulling my leg, I guess it mucks up the electrical contacts or something)

cheers

The problem is the leaves/pollen/etc get stuck in the radiators.

On the train, not the F1 car

On a slightly seperate note, in the pictures on the F1 web site, of Kimi's car towards the end of the race he seemed to have the white stripe on his OSF tyre and the other three with no stripe... does this mean he was running different compound tyres at the same time?...

is that OK... we've been having the conversation in the office and wondered iwhat the rules were for mixing compound or if the fact it was a 'wet race' meant that normal rules don't apply regarding tyre selection do any of you guys have the answer??

Has anyone else seen the Stilh ad where the leaf blower move a delivery truck? Maybe a Ferrari crewman blew LH off of pit lane. Should we ask for a FIA investigation? Of course we would need a qualified Forester and a wind tunnel.

I think it's the latter - this is from the F1 sporting regs:

Quote:
Unless he has used wet or extreme-weather tyres during the race, each driver must use at least one set of each specification of dry-weather tyres during the race.

Were the stripes not worn down on some of the tyres? What time of the race was this roughly?

There are two pictures

http://www.formula1.com/gallery/race/2007/785/ picture 15 shows all wheels with the stripe picture 25 shows just the one, it is 'inside' front tyre so I guess this wouldn't wear quite as fast as the others?

anyway picture 25 is taken as they approach parc ferme at end of race.

The stripe on the left tire was worn off over the race. Most high speed turns are right turns which put heavy load on the left tire. Add a little possible understeer, bingo.

It was showing the white stripe in the beginning of the stint.

But you can only see 3 tyres on Kimi's car
The apparent left rear is actually the Mclaren's left front

During the race I noticed that only one of Kimi's tyres had a white stripe. However this is surely down to the other tyres losing their stripe. In addition there have been at least one other example of a soft grooved tyre failing to have its white strip marked on.

Actually in the UK the problem is a combination of fallen leaves and rain which creates a kind of leaf 'mulch' on the tracks and causes trains to skid.

Trains in the UK don't go fast enough for leaves to get stuck in their radiators.

I think it was Rosberg who went out in Friday practice session not too long ago.The white stripes were missing from his new soft front tyres.Bridgestone admitted to not putting them on!

the leaves on the track make the rails slippery. if an engine trys to go uphill it looses traction on the leaves or isn't able to stop as it will slide. there was a thomas the tank engine episode where james had a problem with leaves on gordons hill. sort of like aquaplaning in a car or kind of what happened to lewis on the wet surface of the pit lane entrance.

managed to be off topic and include another thread

...so Thomas the Tank Engine is conspiring with Ferrari to cheat Fisichella out of his retirement, prevent Nelson Piquet Jr from being numero uno driver somewhere, depending on the wet leaf factor and whether Alonso signs with some other team...or something.

What was this thread about again?
