Oulton Park with trees and no barriers

No sound I'm afraid but still worth a watch

Graham Hill overdoing it a bit!

It does look dangerous, but that is how I remember the racing when I was young. No or hardly run off, armco or whatever.
Can you imagine todays professionals doing something like these guys did all those years ago?

Me neither.

Yup - it's called rallying.

Or you could go to Phoenix Park.

Steve Wilkinson is a back marker
In 1971 I went to my first hillclimb meeting at Doune. There were straw bales tied to the occasional tree - when I asked a marshal why some trees had straw bales and others didn't he replied "The ones with the bales are the ones they have hit before!"

There are now armco barriers, not to protect the drivers I hasten to add but to protect the trees!

Those are my movies and there are several others of the same vintage. Search for "DrBGW" on YouTube, or there are links on my web site at

Thanks for put them on You Tube. They give a real feeling of the atmosphere of the time.

I raced at Oulton through the 80's and 90's so it had changed a bit by then. I think I prefer to hit barriers rather than trees!

Great stuff. I have a look at the others.
